In an effort to clarify the Superintendent's message about District EOC from last week, we will still have exams. The law still requires that we measure student mastery of the Florida Standards, so each teacher will administer a standards-based semester final exam in each class in all grade levels. The expectation is that courses with honors/advanced designation give exams that are 15% of students semester grade, except for FSA/State tested English 1, 2, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Biology, US History and Intensive Reading. All other courses should give a standards-based assessment that is part of the quarter 4 grade.
Senior Semester Exams: May 18 (Periods 1, 3, 5) -19 (Periods 2, 4, 6); May 20 (Make Ups)
Underclassmen Semester Exams: May 29 (Periods 2, 5), June 1 (Periods 1, 6), June 2 (Periods 3,4), June 3 (Make Ups)
I am in the process of asking the district for flexibility with classes that are mixed to be able to administer the exam during senior exam days if the teacher chooses. Also, I am getting clarification on principal-approved (teacher designed) and district-made standards-based assessments, please hold off on the creation of anything until I can get more details.
We do have district-designed standards-based exams that are paper/pencil that have already been delivered and we can use in the following areas:
COMPUTER-BASED: 2-D Art, 3-D Art, Dance, French 1, French 2, Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3/4 Hon, Guitar 1, Band 1-4, Chorus 1, English College Readiness (PERT), Math College Readiness (PERT)
PAPER-BASED: Theatre 1, Acting 1, PCSD 1, First Aid Safety, Journalism 1/2, Creative Writing 1/2, Pre-Calculus, Lib Arts Math, Adv. Topics, Personal Fitness, Weight Training 1-3, Ind/Dual Sports 1-3, Basketball, Team Sports, HOPE, AVID 1-4, Anat. Physio, Ant. Physio Honors, Marine Science, Marine Science Honors, Phy Sci., Phy. Sci. Honors, Chem 1, Chem 1 Honors, Phys 1 Hon, Economics, US Govt, Psych 2, Sociology, World History, World History Honors, Medical Skills, Health Science 1, Foundation of Robotics
The district will grade all of these exams and provide the results/feedback to the teacher/school but not before the end of the school year.
If your course is not listed above, you automatically have a principal-approved exam that the teacher will need to develop based on the standards. I have to sign off through a district database on every exam that is administered to make sure that they are standards-based.
