Roosevelt Pandemic EBT Updated 5/9
Updated 5/9/22 LMC with Mr. Pinta
Students have been working with everything from energy created in a circuit or rollercoaster to building a science laboratory in the world of Minecraft. Here's how things looked by grade level.
Both third and fourth grades used Minecraft to build a science laboratory with several different expectations set by Mr. Pinta. Students learned how to create a working automatic lighting system and how to lay track from their laboratory to one of the many different biomes that surrounded their lab. In the coming weeks, students will be tying in what they've learned during science with their teacher with their Minecraft world.
Second graders also built a science laboratory with some similar expectations and have continued to experiment with the different features of Minecraft to help prepare them for higher standards next year.
Kindergarten and first grade students listened to a book this week called "I Got A Chicken For My Birthday" then used Keva Blocks to build things, most importantly a rollercoaster that was one of the main focuses of the story. They'll be taking this experience with them in weeks to come and build a rollercoaster of their own in Minecraft.
*Next week will be our last week checking out books for the school year. All books will be expected to be returned to the LMC by Monday, May 23. Please help your child return all books that may have come home back to school.

Character Trait May...Reflection
A Note from Ms. Stowell
Elementary Support Teacher
The character trait in the spotlight this month is REFLECTION! Why teach children to be reflective? Being a reflective thinker means to think carefully about your own actions. Learning to be a reflective thinker can benefit students academically, emotionally, and socially. It can help them understand themselves better as a learner and student by reflecting upon their strengths and weaknesses. The trait is helpful to understand themselves emotionally and socially with peer relationships by recognizing their ability to show self control, be empathetic and kind to others as classmates and being part of the school community. Learning to be a reflective thinker gives opportunity for students to self assess their progress by applying other character traits too such as MINDFULNESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and GRIT. This process allows one to take ownership and personal responsibility for not only their daily actions but their overall education. Our Roosevelt Tigers are being introduced to activities that will help them learn practical character building life skills that will lead to making positive choices and personal success. Below you will find a few of my favorites… enjoy!
This Months Lunch Menu
As food supply chain issues continue to be problematic in sticking to a menu, please note lunch options may vary day by day. We will do our best to communicate changes.

Free and Reduced Meal Application
While all LPS enrolled students will receive meals at no cost this coming school year, we encourage all families to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application every year. This application is critical in determining the amount of funding our district receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs. Please visit the LPS website, go to the Departments tab, and find the Food Service link. Take the time to fill it out today!
