"Notes" from Band
Week of: 10-2-17
New Information
This Week's Lessons
This week's lesson schedule is linked below.
6th graders will be working on their music for our upcoming concert on October 10. Students should have circled this music in their Red Book and you should hear them playing it at home from time to time!
7th Graders will be recording a playing assignment in SmartMusic out of their red "Standard of Excellence" method book. This is simply an assessment and students should practice this assignment and ask questions about it prior to coming to their lesson.
Upcoming Concert: Tuesday, October 10
Well, it's hard to believe but our first concert is just around the corner on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 PM. Students should plan on arriving at Prairie View no later than 6:30 PM to warm-up and the concert should conclude somewhere around 7:45. Concert dress is the black Prairie View Bands polo t-shirt that students will be receiving from us within the next few weeks and black pants provided by the student. Black shoes are not required but highly encouraged.
Generally, we recommend that students purchase a cheap pair of pants for their concert uniform if they do not already own a black pair. Chances are that they will grow into more than one pair before they leave Prairie View. I will send out more updates as we get closer to the concert but I wanted to be sure everyone had enough notice about what students should wear at their concert.

Band Lesson Academy Starts October 4!
Information from Previous Newsletters
Sun Prairie Honor Bands
The Sun Prairie Honors Band for 7th and 8th grade students will meet for a festival on November 18th, 2017. This ensemble serves students from several school districts in southern Wisconsin. It is a one day commitment for participants. Prairie View band students can audition for the ensemble following directions here.
Just the process of preparing for the audition will help your child make great gains in their playing. This is an excellent opportunity for Prairie View students to sit side by side with the strongest players in our area. Students who have been a part of the group in the past have enjoyed how this experience has stretched them musically and allowed them to meet new people who are also in band. Please contact Mrs. Sederquist if you have questions!
