Principal's Thoughts

Dear Page Hilltop Families:

WELCOME BACK! We hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing spring vacation break. I will be waiting Monday morning to see all of our students' smiling faces, to listen to their vacation stories, and (hopefully) not to see anyone coming in with crutches!

On April 18th over 30,000 runners, from around the world, took part in the Boston Marathon. It was an exciting event with many amazing personal stories to be told. It was incredible to think that, after running 26 long miles, these athletes still needed to make it another 385 yards to complete their run.

As we return to school on April 25th, our students and staff are faced with a similar challenge. Our "385 yards" is the next 8 weeks of school. We have endured a long and challenging 8 months of school. Now we need to bring it home! We need to gather our energy, motivation & perseverance to finish the school year in a positive & successful way!

All of the marathon runners were "Boston Strong". We are all "Page Hilltop Strong"

Thanks, as always, for sharing your children with us!

Fred Deppe, Principal

Matt Lutinski, Assistant Principal

THE POWER OF OF A POSITIVE GROWTH MINDSET

Your thoughts and your mindset help to focus you in a positive direction. One of our special visual display boards, created by Mr. Lutinski and Mrs. Savoie, provides daily reminders that by simply changing the words you use, you will also have a beneficial result in your mindset.
Big picture

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

The first week of May is always designated as National Teacher Appreciation Week. This year TA week will be celebrated on May 2nd - 6th. It is somewhat silly that we select a single week out of the entire school year to "appreciate" our teachers when they should be recognized every day of every week for all they do to support our students and families. We will certainly take the opportunity, on this special week in May, to show our appreciation in many ways. We also thank all of our paraprofessionals and other support staff at this time also.

As PH families I ask that you consider one very simple way to let your children's teachers know how much you appreciate them. You may choose to send them a card, note, or email! I can guarantee you that our staff would love to receive your special notes as well as special pictures from the children, etc.

SNOW CHALLENGE #3

The third and final snow challenge winners for 2021 - 2022 are ready to be announced. Challenge # 3 was to predict how many total inches of snow would fall on Ayer this year. The winning total was 42.5 inches and we had a 3-way tie with all three students coming within one inch of the actual total. CONGRATULATIONS to Ryan from Mrs. Reilly's 2nd-grade classroom, Arya from Mrs. Crutchfield's 1st-grade classroom & Shayla from Mrs. Holmes' 3rd-grade classroom. I will stop by your classrooms with your prizes.

Thanks to everyone who participated this year and good luck next year!

CLASSROOM SHOWCASE

Third-Grade Team: On the day before April Vacation, the third-grade teams had students bring in their own board games and allowed them to have some fun, playing collaboratively together. What a great way to spend some time working as a class the day before vacation.

SPRING MCAS DATES

All parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th-grade students should have received a copy of the spring MCAS testing dates. We ask that you do your best to avoid scheduling any appointments on those dates.

Helpful Hints for a successful MCAS testing experience:

  • Children are encouraged to try their best at all times. Children should keep in mind that MCAS testing has nothing to do with their report card grades or with promotion to the next grade.
  • Parents should keep students on a typical schedule during MCAS times.
  • Students should be getting lots of good sleep during MCAS times.
  • Students should eat a good breakfast on testing days.
  • Students MUST be on time for all MCAS test days. Students arriving late for school are not allowed to enter the classroom after the test has begun at 9:00 am.

ELA MCAS:

  • Grade 4: Make-up of ELA Session 2 will be on Tuesday, April 26
  • Grade 3: April 25 & 27 (this week)
