Stronger ties forged between DA and Capitol

CEBU CITY, May 1 (PIA7) --- Cebu is not far from being rice sufficient this time with the Cebu Provincial Capitol behind.
This was the statement of Angel Enriquez, Department of Agriculture 7 Officer in Charge Regional Director, in the recent launching of the International Rice Year in Cebu.

CEBU CITY, May 1 (PIA) -- Electoral bets for Cebu province mostly coming from the Liberal Party were among those who discussed their vision for Mega Cebu during the second and third rounds of the Mega Cebu Candidates Forums held April 25.
Candidates present during the forum were Atty. Hilario “JunJun” Davide for the gubernatorial position, Agnes Magpale for vice-gubernatorial, Ace Durano as congressman for the 5th district, Teresita Alegado for mayor of Consolacion town, reelectionist mayor Adelino Sitoy of Cordova, and Efrain Pelaez for the mayoral position in LapuLapu city.
DOH-7 warns public vs typhoid

CEBU CITY, April 30 (PIA) -- With the Philippine summer heat driving more Filipinos to drink more water, government health officials urged the public to be cautious with what they drink and eat.
Officials from Department of Health (DOH) in Region 7 warned that ingesting contaminated food and water can lead to typhoid, the second leading disease ailing residents in the region.
Other diseases caused by contaminated water include diarrhea, cholera, and dysentery.

DOE assures no power interruption on election day

CEBU CITY, April 27 (PIA) --There will be no brown-outs during the elections.
Department of Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla recently assured that there will be no brown outs during the elections.
Petilla was in Cebu during the Visayas Wide Power Summit to brief the stakeholders about the power outlook.

PHIC's registered employers can now remit premiums online

CEBU CITY, April 27 (PIA) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation's (PhilHealth) registered employers can now remit their premiums online through the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
According to Philhealth, BPI offers internet financial services to its existing corporate clientele through ExpressLink.
BPI is an accredited collecting agent of Philhealth so it accepts PhilHealth premiums of employees through the online facility.

The first of its kind in Metro Cebu, the Mega Cebu Candidates' Forum kicked off its series of candidates fora on April 10. Four candidates showed up during the forum: Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura, Carcar mayoral candidate Mariano Alegarbes, San Fernando mayoral candidate Lakambini Reluya, and First District Cong. Eduardo Gullas who is running for mayor of Talisay City.
All candidates were made to answer the focus question: What is your vision for Mega Cebu?
Pres. Aquino attributed the relative decrease in the number of unsolved crimes in Cebu to the cooperation of Cebuanos in promoting peace. He said that from 8,428 crime cases in 2010, it dropped to 5,759 in 2012.
