Romeo & Juliet's deadly love
Emi Volpe
Romeo & Juliet guilty for their death
Because of Romeo and Juliet's willingness to die for each other, it's their fault that they killed each other. Juliet is to blame for her death because she couldn't live without Romeo and Romeo was dead, so she took her life for him. As Juliet is depressed and heart broken she says, "Farewell! God knows when we shall meet again" (Act IV, Scene 14). Juliet is saying she will meet God when she kills herself. And since Romeo thinks that Juliet is dead, he becomes devastated and drinks a poison to kill himself because he can't live without Juliet. As Romeo drinks the poison to kill himself he says, "Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die" (Shakespeare 1096). Romeo is saying that the drugs work quick, and he will die. Now Romeo has taken his life for Juliet.
The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars directed by Josh Boone is a movie that is similar to the Romeo and Juliet play. Its based off the same concept of two people falling in love and things not working out due to the death of the characters. Shailene Woodley plays as Hazel Grace and Ansel Elgort plays as Gus Waters. These two couples are similar to romeo and Juliet because they are both madly in love and they both are young and die at the end of the movie/play. The only different between The Fault in Our Stars and Romeo and Juliet is that in The Fault in Our stars, Hazel and Gus have a disability and end up dead from it, and in Romeo and Juliet they both just kill themselves.
Love Story by Taylor Swift
According to Taylor Swift, She sings about the Romeo and Juliet play. The song Love Story by Taylor Swift is a song that is based on the Romeo and Juliet play. In Taylor Swift's song she sings in Juliet's point of view about meeting a boy named Romeo at a ball gown and running away and falling in love just like in the play. The only difference between the song and the play is that the song just talks about the main love scenes in the story, but it doesn't really go into detail about reasoning behind everything. In these four verses, Taylor Swift sings about the Romeo and Juliet play,
We were both young when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flashback starts:
I'm standing there on a balcony in summer air.
See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns.
See you make your way through the crowd
And say, "Hello, "
Little did I know...
That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, "Please don't go"
And I said...
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all that's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess,
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes".
