Senate Bill 305 as it exists today
S.305, directs the SCDE, when reviewing an educator certificate, to award years of experience for occupational experience in, or related to the content field of the certificate for which the individual qualifies. One year of experience credit may be awarded for every two years of full-time relevant work experience. Years of experience is awarded solely for advancement on the teacher salary schedule and not considered service credit for the state retirement system or state health plans. The individual must complete and submit a verification of relevant work experience form developed by the SCDE with the application for an educator certificate. Further, the bill authorizes teachers who entered the teaching profession prior to July 1, 2023, with occupational experience in, or related to, the content field of their teaching certificate may complete and submit the verification of relevant work experience form to the SCDE to advance their salary and have their pay adjusted for the current school year. However, the individual is not entitled to retroactive pay for the increased years of experience

Army and SC ACTE future Partnership!
Many high schools across the state have a Career and Technical Education (CTE) component to them. The Army would like to partner with these schools to discuss the many civil service opportunities aligned with CTE career fields like its Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program (ACASP) which allows young men and women to enlist in the Army at a higher pay grade in certain trade occupations. We has multiple job opportunities and training from culinary arts to IT, mechanical, and nursing both full- and part-time. For instances, students who enlist in the Army reserves (part-time), train, acquire leadership skills and return home with training and experience that positions them for a better paying job. As a reservist not only to students continuing to serve their country in a part-time status they can further expand their trade by utilizing their education benefits via tuition assistance, Post 9-11 GI bill, credentialing and much more.
If you are interested in learning more about these or other educational services available free of charged to schools and students, contact your state Education Services Specialist, Shantelle James, at Shantelle.n.james.civ@army.mil or (803) 904-0437, to learn more.
