Sing Like Nobody's Listening
Backyard Book Fair
Red Ribbon and Safe Schools Week
After exploring their voices Kindergarten and First grade students are beginning to learn how to match pitch and sing simple songs. We have had fun learning a few Halloween songs and playing on the xylophones and boomwhackers.
Second grade has worked hard learning “Thank You Soldiers” to sing at the Veteran’s Day program. They have also learned sign language that accompanies the chorus of the song. Students have continued to learn to read music in the treble clef and play simple songs on the xylophones.
Third and fifth grade have enjoyed learning classic folk Halloween songs. Students are continuing to learn to read music in the treble clef. They are applying what they’ve learned by reading music and playing songs on the xylophones.
Fourth grade has been busy with preparing “God Bless the USA” for the upcoming Veteran’s Day program. They have also worked hard learning to play the recorder. Students are reading music and learning to play the notes B, A and G.
PAC has worked hard to prepare for the performance at the Falloween Festival. I am very proud of them!

All students participated in a fundraiser called Art to Remember. Students drew self-portraits, butterflies, and houses which can be reproduced on coffee cups, tote bags, cell phone cases, and much more! Personalized order forms will be going home in early November. Just in time for Christmas!
In Topsy Turvy this month, we talked about Caring. The lesson focused on showing concern for others, using words and actions to help, and giving without receiving. What could you do to show care and concern for someone in your family, school, or community?
Scheduled Classes
Kindergarten classes spent time learning about autumn leaves, digital citizenship (personal identify and keeping it safe), and the difference between a library and a book fair.
Grades 1, 2, 4 and 5 are seen on a weekly basis for book exchange.
Digital citizenship classes began with all grades. Grade 1 will focus on personal information online , Grade 2 will focus on "Keep Safe, Keep Away and Keep Telling", Grade 3 will focus on how to create a positive online community, Grade 4 will focus on "digital footprints", and Grade 5 will focus on online consumerism.
Library Programming - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
We have spent the last two weeks of October celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the publication of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl. Golden Tickets have been hidden around the school, and students who find one are instructed to come to the library to pick up their prize. Students are hearing snippets from this children's classic on the Roby Morning News Show (WRBY) and seeing character descriptions and a display of other Roald Dahl titles in the library.
In your wildest dreams, you could not imagine that such things could happen to you!
During the month of October students in grades K-5 worked on soccer skills. We focused on kicking and trapping the ball. We also worked on goalie skills. We will be playing sideline soccer and tournament style games. In November we will work on a variety of different things. We will practice some baseball/softball skills and complete some nutrition activities. We are always working on fitness skills!
Please remember to check the lost and found! Several students have left/lost things in PE class!
It is very important that all students wear tennis shoes to school every day! If your child in unable to participate in P.E. for a particular reason, please be sure to send a note with them! P.E. grades are based on participation, sportsmanship, and behavior in class. There will also be written assignments that the students will be graded on throughout the year. Students are not graded on their “athletic ability” but they are graded on their willingness to try all activities!
