Tumuaki Message
Kia ora Parents and Whānau,
Welcome back to Term 2. We are looking forward to a settled, focused term. A warm welcome also to Moana Jarden-Osborne who joins us as the teacher in Room 18, Totara Team. We look forward to Moana joining our whānau and the strengths that she will bring to our school.
Thank you for your support of the staff professional learning programme this week. On Monday we reviewed our strategic and Kahui Ako goals. We also spent some time working collaboratively on learner agency with Nikki Urlich from Core Education.
On Friday 4 June we will have our second of three Teacher Only Days this year. This day was planned for 2020 but was postponed due to Covid. We will work collaboratively with the staff from our local Kāhui Ako schools - WGHS, WBHS, Milford, Forrest Hill, Sunnybrae, Takapuna, Sunnynook, Wairau Intermediate. The focus for this day is planning, promoting, and supporting Wellbeing across our schools with a strong focus on continuing to develop and strengthen the wellbeing of learners and our community.
Ngā mihi nui,
Wendy
Ako Update
International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
At TNIS we empower IB learners through our Primary Years Programme (PYP) to strive to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.
As part of our partnership with The Resilience Project this month there is a focus on practicing empathy and kindness. Please find below the Parent/Carer Support link
Did you know? The number three is considered the number of harmony, wisdom, and understanding. Or at least it was in the 1960s…..
80+ years later, we would love to share our third instalment of PROJECT+ (Project Plus) with you all in the hope it provides some GEM-related wisdom! We have also included a range of activities that can be used to commemorate ANZAC day on the 25th April.
The third edition of PROJECT+ and the necessary links can be found below. Parent/Carer Support Practicing Empathy (Click HERE to view) Recommended implementation: Watch the video with your family and create a kindness challenge over a week, month or year!
Communication
Thanks for all of your support last term. We noticed that a number of learners arrived at school on Monday. Please ensure that you have downloaded the school app which is our main form of communication.
School App
The school app is our main form of communication. Go to the Apple or Android App stores and search
“SchoolAppsNZ” to download the app. Then search “Takapuna Normal Intermediate School to find our school app. Any emergency notifications will be made via this app. Therefore, it is most important that you download and start using the app as soon as possible.
Daily Notices
The Daily Notices Google Doc is the best place to find out what is happening at TNIS on a daily basis. Details of activities and how and when to sign up are included here throughout the year.
Newsletters
Fortnightly newsletters are available via the app and the school website. They contain school information regarding upcoming events and also celebrate the successes of our learners.
School Website
Our school website www.tnis.school.nz is where you find information about TNIS. It also contains the school calendar, which is live and updated with important school events. Clicking on an event will reveal further details.
More timely than the newsletter, the school Facebook page is often updated daily with happenings at TNIS.
School News
On the morning of the 25th of April, nine of the school leaders represented TNIS at the Takapuna ANZAC Service. They laid a wreath on behalf of our school.
