MISSION
A Note from your Principal
Dear West Newton Families,
The school year has flown by so quickly and our children are enjoying their lessons as well as the beautiful spring weather. Soon I will have to say “goodbye” to our graduating 6th graders as they walk the hallways of West Newton for the final time as Tigers and will soon become Hawks. I know that each of our grade levels have some fun end of the year celebrations coming up such as “camping” in grade 1, a class picnic in grade 2, and field day in grade 3. Our 3rd-5th graders will have their Honor Roll Ceremony while our 6th graders enjoy all of the joys of graduation. Here are some important dates and times for you to note on your calendars:
· May 15-16 = BOGO Book Fair – open both days and evenings!
· May 15 = 5:30pm High Ability Tiger Pride Night for grades 2-5
· May 16 = Gr. 5 and 6 Music Program/Coffee House
· May 17 = School Smiles (dentist) at West Newton
· May 23 =
o 8:30am = Grade 3-5 Honor Roll (invitations will be sent)
o 10:00am = Grade 6 Graduation
o 12:00-2:00pm = Grade 6 Celebration
o Report Cards go home for grades 1-6
· May 24 is a Teacher Work Day – school is not in session
I would also like to honor three West Newton teachers who are retiring after wonderful careers: Mrs. Rita Ryden, Mrs. Karen Wray, and Mrs. Susan Yount. Each of them have served the students and community of Decatur Township for decades and will be greatly missed!
Thank you for sharing your children with all of us. It is the greatest honor for Mr. Werner and me to be the administrators of West Newton Elementary. We both look forward to seeing everyone at Registration in July!
With Tiger Pride,
Mrs. Strube
