WELCOME TO THE 19-20 SCHOOL YEAR
Let's Reflect
Planning to the moon and back. Check.
1st day of school. Check.
Smiles from the inside out. Check.
Eye contact with students. Check.
Greeting students at the door. Check.
Making the first couple of days memorable through an experience and activity. Check. There are many pieces that have to come together to make for a successful first few days of school. Not only did the pieces happen, but they came together to make the tastiest pie for a WIN in any contest. Take a moment, and think back to last week. Think back to the planning phases - what was your goal for day one with the kiddos?! How'd you measure up? If you're in need of something to jog your memory from last week take a look at the video below to view how one teacher begins her year with her students.
There are two reasons for the suggested reflection:
- Reason 1: You should be proud. I'm pretty certain this will lead to a an awesome celebration!
- Reason 2: Hattie shares reflection has a 0.75 effect size on student learning and it's also one of the most overlooked strategies! And you know one way to increase the use of a strategy, right? That's right - practice.
So here we are, back to reflecting on your goal for day one with the kiddos. How'd you do? Share your thoughts with your accountability partner! Don't have one? Share with your class neighbor.
Rock on Pirates! What a great start. Arrrgh!
