Howdy, Austin!

This is the first in a series of regular career development updates we'll be experimenting with! Help us determine what's most helpful for you by sharing your feedback and ideas with Ashley (really, we want to hear from you!). We also have some other ideas in the works, so stay tuned.

Something to think about

If you've never heard of Seth Godin, go check out his website! Seth is a world-renowned marketing guru who writes brilliantly about the subject of work and is always sharing some food for thought. Here's a little something to keep in mind when you're answering calls today:

"What would happen to your audience if you shut the doors tomorrow? (I know what would happen to you, that's not my question... what would happen to them?) What would happen to your customers and to your prospects if you stopped doing your work? If you stopped showing up, if you stopped selling them something, would they miss you if you were gone? If the airline went away, we'd just find another airline. If the cookie cutter politician went away, we'd just vote for someone else. If the typical life insurance agent...Does it matter if it's you doing the work?"

Your work matters! You have the opportunity to make a difference every time you speak with a client and give them an experience that they would miss if The Honest Company was gone.

Hey, thank you!

We got # of responses on the career development interest survey we sent out this week. Thanks to everyone who took a few minutes to give us your input and help us figure out how we can offer something that's truly valuable to you. As Honest show us every day, if you want something to be better, you've got to make it happen! We'll be using this feedback to develop some experimental offerings and can't wait to see what you think!

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” -John Quincy Adams

What do you really do? Hint: The answer's not in your title.

“The Mayo Clinic builds its mission around serving the patients. They see all the employees as operating with the same value that 'the needs of the patient come first.' All employees regard the wellness of the patient as the top priority, even among employees with no patient contact. One study participant from the Mayo Clinic described an anecdote that took place when a documentary team was filming a series titled ‘Driving towards zero medical mistakes.’ The camera crew stepped into a hospital room as a janitor was cleaning it. The journalist casually asked the janitor off-camera if he was cleaning the room for the next patient. The janitor replied ‘No – I’m saving people’s lives.’"
