McKinley JOG-A-THON This Friday!
We have raised $17,596 already! Thank you! Help us get to $43,500 by Friday!
Still unsure what the PTA does with all the money it raises? Here is the answer.
Haven’t set your online account to collect pledges? You still have time. Go to pledgestar.com. You can also collect cash or checks (write checks to McKinley PTA). All pledges are due by Friday.
Would you like to come support your student? Check the schedule for Jog-a-thon day.
Could you help us coordinate runners, hand out snacks and help in any other way needed? Sign up here. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044daea923a4fd0-jogathon
Remember that every student that raises $15 or more will be entered into a drawing for 2 Disneyland passes! We are hoping for 100% participation. Help us out and check out all our awesome incentives!
Each classroom’s top fundraiser (plus a friend) will have a Yogurtland party with Ms Larson. The TOP fundraiser OVERALL will get to be Principal for a Day! Want to see the current number to beat? Here is a list of the top fundraising amount in each classroom as of today.
If you want to go ahead and turn in your Jogathon envelope to the Office, our volunteers will do their best to count the money and get it updated in Pledgestar.
If every child at McKinley raised $100 for Jogathon, we would meet our goal. That isn't possible for every family so we appreciate everyone who is able to go the extra mile! Each child that has raised $200 or more will cover the fundraising need for at least one other child. Thank you!

Attendance Awareness Month
September is Attendance Awareness Month
Simply put: If your student misses school, the school loses money and your student has a lower chance of academic success.
Did you know...
That missing just two school days a month means that you are missing 10% of the school year, which is the equivalent of missing an entire month of school.
During the 2018-19 school year, Petaluma City Schools (PCS) lost over $700,000 due to declining attendance throughout grades TK-12.
These losses directly affect programs at each school.
At PCS, our top reasons for absences are due to short-term vacations and days missed for appointments, not for student illness.
What can you do?
The District gets funding for any portion of a day a student is in attendance, so please try to start and/or end your day at school if at all possible!
If you are taking a family vacation during the 2019-20 school year, please take it in April and/or May. (Missed days July-March reduce the school budget $50-55/student/day. Missed days April-May reduce the school budget about $1/student/day.
If you are going to be gone for 5 or more consecutive days, you may be able to sign your student up for independent study. Each school has an independent study coordinator that can help you. Completed independent study packets receive full attendance credit.
We appreciate all of our families hard work and efforts to keep students coming to school every day! We are striving to raise our attendance even higher this year and we know we can do it! Read more.
PTA Family Science Night
McKinley PTA is planning our first ever Family Science Night! This special PTA “give back” event on Tuesday, October 29 will be an evening of family-oriented science activities and there will be a special giveaway! To make this event happen, we need a few volunteers to help us plan! If you are passionate about Science and STEM and can help, please contact Amy at mckptapres@gmail.com
The Maker Space Really Needs Your Help!
The maker space will not be able to open until we have some parent volunteers to supervise and facilitate. Right now we only have volunteers for half a shift one day a week and we can’t open unless we find some more people willing to help.
If you like kids and enjoy seeing how their bright minds get creative right in front of your eyes, this is your easy volunteering job! Please read more about the Maker space here and sign up to volunteer. Our students will be forever grateful to you as they constantly ask when they will be able to come play at the Maker Space!
Time is Running Out to Become a PTA Member
We have 274 PTA members so far! Wow! The PTA membership contest will continue until 9/30 and the class with the largest number of families joining will get an ice cream party!. You only have one more week to sign up and have your membership count towards the contest.
Become a member for $10/person now!
