Explora Vision
Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision is a national STEM competition that challenges the students to look 20 years into the future. The students researched current technology and imagined what it would be in 20 years. The students put a lot of hard work during STEM for this project. We submitted 33 projects from grades 3rd-5th. This year we are honored to have 3 teams achieve national honorable mention in the contest. This means that their projects were the Top 10% in the Nation and I was also able to be named a Top 27 coach for the eligible projects submitted. Each students project that was submitted will receive an entry prize and certificate.

Kindergarten
This week in Kindergarten we went on a leprechaun hunt, learned about the Irish holiday, how to create rainbows with fats and sugars, how plants take root and graphed the different marshmallows in Lucky Charms!. We also had a wonderful time explaining how our traps worked and then voted on the trap that we felt that would work the best.
We had a great time writing about what new type of marshmallow should be added to Lucky Charms! We described it size, color, taste and shape and then the class voted on which marshmallow should be in the next box of cereal!

Ms. Molnar’s class is working on sequence of events in ELA this week. We wrapped up our chapter on double digits in math and are ready for our spring break!

Guest Speaker: World History- Ms. Kish group
Some classes had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Daniel Keel, 96 years old, WW2 survivor and one of the remaining Tuskegee Airman! Mr. Keel has been awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007 by President George W. Bush and also met President Obama. In addition, Mr. Keel has been the subject of two books. He shared personal stories of racism in the military in the 1940s and explained to the students the importance of diversity, staying in school, studying hard, and procuring a good education. The students were apart of “living history” as Mr. Keel watched a brainpop.com video of the Tuskegee Airman! Ms. Kish said, “It was surreal to watch Mr. Keel watch his life through that lens, a true honor.” *Thank you to Prince-Howard and his mother for organizing the visit.
Ms. Kish- Art Elective and History classes- Student made mandalas- “circle” in Sanskrit in celebration of Ancient India and homemade kites, using recyclable materials, after studying Ancient China. Twelve students’ independent projects will be showcased in the Winter Park Art Show this weekend.
