Student Growth

Our Little Chiefs are making huge gains throughout the 2020-2021 school year. COVID definitely took a bit of the wind out of our sails, but our staff and students have been working hard to make up for lost time and close the learning gaps. We've recently finished our winter testing and our students have made tremendous gains since the fall. As of mid-February, 18% more of our students are proficient in reading than in the fall. That's roughly 100 students who are now proficient that were not to start the school year!!! We are thrilled with the growth we're seeing and look forward to maintained our rate of growth through the end of the year.

New Schedule

Just a friendly reminder that we are running out new 5-day schedule. Please remember Mondays are shortened school days. Students may now enter the building at 7:50. New dismissal times:

  • Monday - 8:00-12:30
  • Tuesday-Friday - 8:00-3:00

As always, we will stagger our student dismissal times to allow each grade level to exit the building at separate times.

  • Monday - K @ 12:20, 1st @ 12:25, 2nd & 3rd @ 12:30
  • Tuesday-Friday - K @ 2:50, 1st @ 2:55, 2nd & 3rd @ 3:00

There are NO CHANGES to the Pre-K schedule. There is still NO SCHOOL for PRE-K on Mondays.

Don't forget your masks!

Please remember to send your children to school with face coverings!! We are routinely reminding students to bring their masks to school. We do provide masks for students that forget them, however these masks are in short supply and many a provided through donation. Please assist us in keeping staff and students safe!

Canned Food Drive

Character trait of the month: Caring

One way we chose to show that we care for others was to host a canned food drive! Our goal was to collect 1,500 canned goods.

Not only did we meet the goal, we blew it out of the water!! Our Little Chiefs collected 2,129 canned goods!!

As a reward, the teachers from the classrooms that collected the most cans got to pie Mr. Marsden and myself in the face!

Box Tops For Education

Have you heard?! Box Tops For Education is going digital! No more clipping, no more sending your student to school with a baggie full of box tops. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label. If you see the label, use the new Box Tops For Education app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for our school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online. You can download the app today!!

Casey's Cash for Classrooms

Dear Parents,

We’re excited to share that our school is participating in Cash for Classrooms, part of Casey’s Rewards. This opens up Hawthorne Elementary to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.

The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you buy from Casey’s and use their rewards program you can simply turn your points into a donation to our school. Help Hawthorne Elementary make the most of this program and learn more at Caseys.com/schools.

Sincerely,

Mike Marsden
