The Strongsville Middle School Wellness Team is working to create healthy habits in all of our students through a focus on the complete human - mental and physical. Their goal is to inspire our students to create lifelong positive health and wellness choices. The SMS Wellness Team is also focusing on our Strongsville community and providing wellness opportunities outside of the classroom. The team has planned a Wellness Fair, happening tomorrow (Saturday, 10/20) from 10:30am - 1:30pm at Strongsville Middle School, featuring many local vendors and demonstrations. ISSUE 8 - STRONGSVILLE CITY SCHOOLS OPERATING LEVY
Strongsville City Schools has an operating levy on the ballot in November. The proposed 7.9 mill continuous operating levy will generate approximately $11.3 million annually for our District. The last operating levy for our District was passed in 2007. If passed, this operating levy will cost $23 per month for a $100,000 home. Click HERE for additional information on this proposed levy.
Have questions or need more information about this proposed operating levy? Visit www.strongnet.org/Issue8 for additional facts and FAQ videos.
NEW WEBPAGES TO REPORT FRAUD AND NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS
There are two new pages on our District website for reporting fraud and non-resident students within our District. Our Fraud Hotline provides an avenue for individuals to anonymously report fraud, waste, and abuse within the Strongsville City School District. In addition, fraud can be reported to the Ohio Auditor of State at https://ohioauditor.gov/fraud/default.html.
Students of the Strongsville City School District must maintain residency in Strongsville. If you know of someone who is not a Strongsville resident, but continues to send their children to the Strongsville City Schools, please help us by calling and reporting to this number: 440-572-7048 You need not leave your name unless you so choose. A district official will investigate the situation based on your information. You may also email information to: notify@scsmustangs.org.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MS. ALISON BIXLER, EARLY LEARNING PRESCHOOL TEACHER
Ms. Alison Bixler is in her first year with our District as a teacher in the Early Learning Preschool. With our preschool enrollment expanding, this is also the first year that additional classes have been created at Chapman Elementary, which is where Ms. Alison teaches. Ms. Alison earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bowling Green State University. Even though she is new to the area, “from the very first time I visited and pulled off of I-71, I felt the sense of community in our city.”
In working with our preschool students, Ms. Alison had this to say, “I love fostering warm and supportive relationships with and between students. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to accomplish this while working with our mini-Mustangs. Getting to know each individual child and constantly discovering new strengths is the best. All of my students have been eager to bring their unique traits and interests they have to the metaphorical table; for this, I am extremely grateful!”
She added about her teaching environment, “I am extremely fortunate to have a supportive team at both the Early Learning Preschool and at Chapman. Everyone has been incredibly kind and welcoming. My administrators have helped me hit the ground running, and my colleagues and I collaborate and problem-solve constantly. Finally, my classroom assistants are the most amazing individuals and our classroom would not be operating in the way that it is without them. Everyone here is endlessly dedicated to their students, and it has been a very positive environment in which to grow as an educator.”
Thank you Ms. Alison for bringing your many teaching talents to our District and helping our preschool students develop strong educational foundations!
