In The Library
August-September
Now that the craziness of Back to School has started to settle down, I wanted to take this oppertunity to introduce myself. My name is Michelle Philippides and I have been a teacher at IHK for the past 18 years. During this time I taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade. I am so excited to be the new LMC Director and work with past students and get to know new ones.
What's New?
Monarch Madness
Courtesy of Making Memories with Butterflies, the kids of IHK have been able to experience the amazing transformation that Monarchs make from Egg to Butterfly. The Monarch is the state butterfly and is currently in danger of becoming extinct. We are doing our part at IHK to make sure that doesn't happen!

Little Free Library
IHK is now hosting a Little Free Library in the garden. You are welcome to use this library 24/7. We hope to have books for everyone in our community. If you have books you are no longer reading, add them to our LFL. Take a book to read and enjoy. Spread the word, this is for EVERYONE!
CHECK IT OUT!
Students at IHK will have the oppertunity to check out their own books this year using our student friendly check out station. Help your child remember to return the bag with the bar code each week and keep the books in the bag unless they are reading them.
What's With the Bags?
As you have noticed, your child's library book is in a plastic bag. In the past, many books have been damamged by waterbottles and snacks in backpacks. My hope is that we can work together to decrease the number of books that are damaged this year.
The second benifit to using plastic bags, is the barcode I have placed inside the bags. This allows the student to check out books independantly when they come to the library. If your child's bag needs to be replaced, I will transfer the barcode to a new bag.
Thank you for your help in keeping our library books in great shape all year long!
