EDMS Community Newsletter

December 12, 2022

Hello and Happy Monday Toro Community.

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend. This is our last full week of the Semester and what a busy week it will it be! This week we have a week full of celebrating our talented students and community and will be enjoying our first Astronomy Night. Please see the calendar below for details for all our wonderful events.

Last week we wrapped up our Winter Book Fair, thank you so much to our PFC for planning and hosting our Book Fair! It was great to see students being so excited for all the great selections.

While we know that the holidays can bring cheer and fun, we also know that this time of the year can also be difficult for some. Our CARES program has some meals available for families in need, if you or someone you know could use these meals, please call the office for more information.

If you are requesting an Independent Study for a circumstance where your student will be absent for more than 5 days, we ask that you request this at least 2 weeks in advance. It does take time to put together and gather work to be completed.

Mindful Life Project

Coach Scott, our Mindfulness Coach, invites you to join our Family Mindfulness on Thursdays. The meetings will be ongoing every Thursday from 3:30 to 4pm each week and are available in person in Room S3 or online (See links below). We will discuss what mindfulness is, how it is relevant in our lives, and we will also engage in mindful practice. Families, students and other members of your household are welcome to join.

He hopes to see you there!

Student phones should not be used from when the bell rings at the beginning of school to when the bell rings at the end of the day. If a student needs to use their phone to reach a guardian for an emergency, they are welcome to come to the office or inform their teacher that they need to use their phone and can ask staff for permission. Students on their phones during the day are at risk of getting their phone confiscated. On the second confiscation, students will be assigned a Learning Module to reflect on our expectations. On the second violation, we will contact guardians to inform you. On the third confiscation, parents will be asked to come pick up their student's phone. This policy is built to help relieve any distractions during the school day and to limit misuse of cell phones on campus.

Hello Toro Family,

In the Toro Wellness Center we have started to have appreciation cards out for kids to fill out and share some good energy to others. Here are some we have received in the last few weeks:

Student to staff

Ashley wants to appreciate Ms. O’Malley, Ms. Sheridan, Ms. Estenson, Ms. Peterson, and Ms. Aguilar. She said, “I don't know but I just do appreciate them.”

Student to student

Camila wants to appreciate Diana because she is the best friend I could ask for. I love her very much.

Silvia wants to appreciate Camila for always being there from day one.

Alexandra wants to appreciate Solomon because they are my best friend and never judged me.

Starting next semester counselors will begin focusing on social emotional themes on a monthly basis. We will be sharing any relevant information and develop other activities around the themes.

Centralized Enrollment

The TK/Kindergarten Registration calendar is now available! We currently anticipate being in our new Enrollment Center (previously Diablo Community Day School) attached to Willow Creek Center, prior to the start date. Student Services will still provide Elementary sites with Kinder Registration packets should families come in to request them and we ask that sites provide us with their school specific forms for distribution, at least 2 weeks prior to their registration date.

PFC Looking for Local Businesses & Vendors

The PFC is looking for local businesses and vendors who would like to support our amazing school and students. We are planning many community events and fundraisers and are in search of local businesses who are interested in collaborating with us. This may range from being a food vendor at an event, sponsoring an event or activity, donating items to feature in auctions and prize baskets, and so much more. As a thank you, the PFC will promote your company to our school community through social media mentions, promotional banners for any events, and a special "Thank you" banner along Concord Blvd.

If you are interested, please complete the form below and we will connect with you.
