Online Learning Tips and Tricks

Creating an Online Presence

One of the best things you can do as an online teacher is to create a positive web presence. You want to make sure your students and parents know that you are visible. Nothing is worse than taking an online course where you do not feel connected to the your teacher.

- Create a “Get to Know Your Teacher” page with pictures and fun facts about you

- Create an introduction video welcoming the class to your course using Powtoon

- Create clear course expectations that are easy to find

- Create online office hours where you will be available to students using join.me or Skype

- Create online parent sessions or newsletters using Smore to keep parents up to date with what is going on in your course

- Check in with individual students via email at least once a week to make sure everything is going well

- Create announcements at least once a week with information pertaining to the current unit of study or with any useful information you find that will help student learning

- Have fun! Think of your online class as you would your face-to-face class, make your class fun and exciting, get creative and make it an experience that the students won't forget!
