News for the week of January 11th

Snow Theme

This week in 4K we will continue our snow theme! We will be reading the classic book The Mitten by Jan Brett. We will read and act out the book in class. We will do a mitten art project as well! See below for a reading of The Mitten.

Jolly Phonics

Our Jolly Phonics letter of the week is "D". The action for the /D/ letter sound is to beat your hands up and down, as if you are playing a drum, and say d, d, d, d. Practice the letter /D/ sound by watching the Jolly Phonics video below.

Parent Craft Night

Please mark your calendars for a special parent/child craft night in February. The craft night will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at the Elementary School cafeteria from 6:00- 7:00pm. All three 4K classes will be combined for this fun event. We will be making a craft and singing a few songs :) We hope everyone can make it! Siblings, grandparents, etc.. are all invited as well!

Valentine Exchange

A Valentine class list will be sent home this week! The list includes each child's name and a number. This number will be on a special valentine box they will make. This will make our Valentine Exchange (on Friday, February 12th) into a math number matching game. Please make sure that when your child glues their classmate's names onto their Valentines that they include the number. I am sending this information home early so students can do a few Valentines each week so the task does not become overwhelming. Please send in one shoe box (not decorated as we will decorate them in class) to school by Tuesday, February 2nd or earlier. We will use the shoe boxes for their special valentine mailboxes.

Traveling Backpacks

Traveling Backpacks will be sent home starting this week Tuesday, February 12th. Thank you to those of you who responded if you would like to receive them or not. If your child receives a book bag on January 12th it is due back by the next Monday, January 18th. That way we are able to check the book bag in and get it out to another family by Tuesday each week. We have 10 book bags per class (am and pm). Not every student will get to take home a bag each week. However, we will keep track and make sure that every student will be getting equal turns taking the different bags home. Some of the bags are a little heavy so if you would like to arrange to pick it up on Tuesday or have me drop it off somewhere please let me know!

I hope you enjoy the traveling book bags. The “book bags” are designed to be fun and informative ways for families to share literacy and learning experiences at home! Please remind your child that these backpacks are to be played with an adult. There are many pieces in each backpack and it could get frustrating with misplaced items if your child is not using the activities with adult supervision.
