Superintendent's Update
January 15, 2021
CCPS Community,
This week we welcomed back the first 5% of students for face-to-face instruction. We continue to closely monitor Cecil County’s metrics and the success of serving our current five percent of students who are back. We will also continue to work with the Health Department and other stakeholders to determine the next steps that will allow us to welcome back more students. We are very much looking forward to the time when we are able to do so, but it is imperative that we are doing so safely and under the advisement of our local health experts.
This week the Health Department began the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination to CCPS employees, who are designated as group 1B. Between our two vaccination clinic days this week of Wednesday and Friday, approximately 800 employees have been vaccinated with more clinics planned over the next few weeks. This is a big step in the right direction of being able to re-open. I would like to extend a big THANK YOU to our school nurses who are on the front lines administering the vaccines to CCPS employees. I would also like to thank the Cecil County Health Department, Cecil County Government, and ChristianaCare Union Hospital for their partnership in this important initiative.
Next Monday marks the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and the annual celebration hosted by Wright’s AME Church. While this year the event will be held virtually, it is something that I am looking forward to, as it is a true celebration of Dr. King’s legacy and the coming together of our community.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.
