Nurse's Notice
State law requires that all public schools hold annual health screenings for students. We will be screening students throughout the fall semester on all campuses. Students will be screened for Hearing, Vision, and Acanthosis Nigricans (a visual marker that may indicate possible signs of type 2 diabetes) in grade levels PK, KG, 1, 3, 5, 7 and all New to District students. Please ensure that your child is wearing his/her eyeglasses/contacts to school daily.
If further evaluation by your doctor is needed, parents will be notified in writing. Please note that these screenings do not replace your child's need for regular health care and check-ups. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for cooperation,

Counselor's Corner
"When I say COLLEGE, you say BOUND!" "COLLEGE!" "BOUND!" "COLLEGE!" "BOUND!"
YES! Thelma Jones students are COLLEGE BOUND! It all starts with us creating a school climate that promotes higher education and the mindset that college is for ALL and is POSSIBLE for each of our students!
College Pennants
Students are creating college pennants and learning about teacher’s alma & their college experience. Parents, feel free to download pennant template to help your child to design and complete their college pennants (Students were given a copy). Students are to return pennant to their homeroom teacher or to Mrs. Keller, School Counselor. We will display pennants around the school.
Looking for After School Care?
Become a school volunteer for 2019-2020
Because the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, those wanting to become MISD volunteers must go through the following security measures before serving in the district:
- Volunteers must provide a driver’s license or another form of identification containing the person’s photograph issued by an entity of the U.S. government to verify identity.
- Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. The online form is available here.Opens a New Window.
MISD uses a reputable third-party company to obtain criminal background checks. The form asks for a social security number to conduct the background check. Please note that credit scores and credit reports are not obtained during the background check process. The information given will only be used to determine criminal history. (View the rights under FCRAOpens a New Window..) MISD cannot require parties who are not employed with the district to provide social security information. If an applicant opts out, the background check process may take longer in order to cross-check information. - Volunteers must complete a background check each year. Once you complete the background check for one school in the district it is valid for all schools in the district.
