What's going on this week!
It was a great week at Russellville Middle School last week as we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. A big thank you to all the clubs/organizations that provided the great treats and goodies for our teachers and staff members. It was a fun and exciting week!
This past weekend I attended the graduation of my daughter in physical therapy at the University of South Alabama. As I sat at graduation and listened to the guest speaker, he said some things that really made me think. He began his speech by saying, "Success is never truly your own." I thought about how true this really is. From the time we are born, we are dependent upon the help of others. We are surrounded by our family and friends who help us grow and help us learn. Eventually we get old enough to attend school and then our teachers make a major impact on who we become. Together, all the people who have touched our lives have helped mold us and helped us grow into successful adults. Our success belongs partly to us due to the choices we have made, but it is also belongs to the people that have loved us and supported us! Every day in the classroom you are doing the same thing with your students. You are touching lives one child at a time and you are a large part of the success of your students who will eventually be the successful adults in the world. You matter and always remember that what you do changes lives!
The speaker ended the speech with, "We need to remember to thank those individuals who have guided us and helped us along the way." That may be the piece we often leave out. It is easy to get caught up in life and forget to say "thank you". Some times we even take those words very lightly as we tend to say "thank you" for small things such as someone opening a door for us or passing the salt and pepper at the dinner table. When you really think about it, when was the last time that you really, sincerely, thanked someone for the impact they made in your life? When did you last thank someone for the sacrifices they made or the time they took to help you? I challenge you today to make it your mission to thank someone...someone who wouldn't expect it. Send a letter to a former teacher who helped you be a successful student, a coworker who has mentored you in your career, or even a parent who has nurtured you into the adult you have become. The possibilities are unlimited!
