Welcome Back!
A Little Bit About Me...
I grew up in the Park Hill School District and attended Line Creek Elementary, South Jr. High and Park Hill High School. I grew up in the Coves and have always lived in the northland. I come from a family of 6 that includes two older brothers and a twin sister.
My husband, Chad, and I met at Park Hill High School. He teaches english at Park Hill High School. We have three children, Emily, Ryan and Abby. Emily will be a sophomore at Park Hill High School and Ryan and Abby will attend Congress Middle School. I cannot forget our two dogs, Ruby and Rex. They are both Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mixes. My family are the main subjects of most of my writing examples.
Education...
I attended the University of Kansas and received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees there. I am a Jayhawk tried and true! My family attended KU and Chad played football for KU. I know, I know...not basketbal but there's nothing like the spirit of a football game in fall at the foot of the KU campus!
I did my student teaching in 2nd grade at Chinn Elementary and 5th grade at Lee's Summit Elementary. My first year of teaching was half day kindergarten at Davidson Elementary in the North Kansas City School District. I then taught 2nd grade there for 7 more years. I took a year away from teaching when Ryan and Abby were born. I then taught 3rd grade at Southeast Elementary for 3 years. This will be my 9thyear as an instructional coach. I absolutely love my job as an instructional coach. I have the opportunity to work with so many people in so many different roles. My passion is getting in there and learning with the kids. They are so genuine and teach me so many things about life. I love their stories and their thirst for knowledge. There is nothing like seeing that lightbulb click on when they learn something new.
Sharpening the Saw...
To sharpen my saw, I try to do some form of exercise on a daily basis. I was and will be a runner again soon. I broke my ankle trying to dismount off of a zip line during an obstacle course. And when I say trying... I just simply did not get off. My summer was spent in 3 different casts but I took that opportunity to catch up on books, movies, and even knitted a scarf. (Don't ask me to show you how to knit. I knitted it in 3 hours because I was afraid to put the needles down.) I boxed at Title Boxing for 2 years but have transitioned into more of a cross-fit workout at Faithful Fitness. Although I'm scared every time I look at the workout for the day, I absolutly love it! Exercise is my stress relief so I try to do something each day. I try to be health conscience but if you follow me on Pinterest, you'll see my dessert board is pretty intense. I spent many a mornings on the treadmill watching the Food Network. I love to laugh and am easily amused so please don't take me too seriously. If you don't know if I'm kidding or not, I probably am. Laughing is just the best medicine. I value all of the my relationships with the different circles of friendships I have. If you want to know something about me, just ask.
So that's me in a nutshell. I am so eager to embrace my role as a K-5 instructional coach. I have no doubt we will learn together this year to impact the success of each and every student.
