Fenway STEM Day Field Trip

On Wednesday, May 1 the Baseball & Society class traveled to "America's Most Beloved Ballpark" for Fenway STEM Day. In addition, to watching (and scoring) the Red Sox win over the Oakland A's Kevin Lemanowicz and the Channel 25 Weather Team was on hand to discuss the science of weather prediction. There was also a Lego Master Builder, and demos by the Museum of Science & the Mad Science group. The egg drop off the Green Monster was also a highlight. I'm also proud to report our very own Mark Coleman won a Red Sox hat by answering a trivia question correctly about the redoubtable Cy Young. A Shark Shout Out to our awesome students and for Mr. Sean Burke for assisting as a chaperone.

Congratulations 8th Grade Authors

Congratulations to the eighth grade students who had their short fiction pieces published in Stranger Sagas, a collection of spooky stories from Massachusetts. Students who ordered copies have already received them, and the school's copy is available through our high school library for students who want to read more. We are proud of our young writers and look forward to reading their work in the future.

Monomoy’s Multicultural Hip Hop Dance Team, The Mix performed at Unbound at the Cotuit Center for the Arts Thursday May 2nd as part of Art Week. In addition to performing, students participated in a variety of artistic workshopsThe Mix’ performance received raving reviews from audience members. Unbound III was an interactive and collaborative pop-up arts experience exploring personal and global themes with many artists presenting their work. Among the artists was Sarah Symons and her husband John Berger who together created the Her Future Coalition, formerly known as Made By Survivors. The Her Future Coalition supports survivors of human sex trafficking. For more on her work follow this link to her TED talk, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ieJBcIOc7_w. Other artists included Wilderness Sarchild, poet & playwright, Christine Ernst, writer & performer, Sam Holmstock, musician, and David Iannitelli, dancer/choreographer, co-director of The Movimento Project who personally reached out to The Mix to perform and participate in Unbound. Students not only participated in workshops, they helped to create original art during the event. We look forward to The Mix’s next performance during the Multicultural Fair.

1st Annual Film Fest Features Talented Students Work

We had our 1st FilmFest last night and it went very well. We have some very talented students and it showed with the films they submitted. I would like to thank Dave Alexander for getting this rolling, he is such an asset to our school and doesn't get nearly the recognition that he should with everything he does behind the scenes. I would also like to thank Kate McMahon and Izzi Caplan from Cape Code Community Media Center for being our partners in the FilmFest, they have been instrumental in getting this off the ground too. Also to John and the custodial group, they are top notch.

Athletics Weekly Summary

Written by: Caroline Howard

Well, can I just say that I am hoping everyone has a rain jacket to storm this wet weather? Boy has it been a nasty week! But, as we all know, our Sharks can take on any conditions and battle right on through it! And that is exactly what they did! So, grab a snack and sit back because here we go!

I first was to give a big congratulations to our two Scholar Athletes of the Month Caroline Davock and Perry Comeau! On top of competing on the track team, these two are well known for their total commitment in the classroom, which puts them at the top of the class! Keep up the hard work, you guys are almost to the finish line!

A reminder that Spring Sports Award Night will be held on Monday June 10th in the auditorium! There will be refreshments at 6:00 in the cafeteria, and the awards will begin 6:30! Make sure to bring your friends and family for a great night! Can’t wait to see you all there!

On Monday, Girls Golf kicked us off with a tri-match against Falmouth and Sandwich. That’s right folks, three teams of golfers! The Sharks took the victory over the Falmouth Clippers 5-1, but fell to the Sandwich Blue Knights ½ to 5 ½. Great rounds were played by Caitlin Daley, Charlotte Blute, and Delaney Agnes! Great job Sharks!

Also on Monday, we had our Softball team face off against DY. A very close game was fought, but in the end, the Dolphins swam into victory 3-1. A great game was played by Caroline DiGiovanni at catcher, and to the team as a whole! You’ll get them next time girls!

Baseball also had a game against DY on Monday, but unfortunately faced the same result. A great game was played by the Sharks, but the Dolphins ended up taking the win 15-5. Great effort Sharks!

On Tuesday, our lacrosse teams both played Sturgis West. And… both teams stepped out with a win! The girls took their victory 16-9, and the boys 9-2! Way to go Sharks, nice job!

Softball was back at it again with another game, and this time they faced Martha’s Vineyard. Tuesday was a lucky day as the Softball team also took a victory home 14-1! Great job ladies!

On Tuesday, the Girls Golf team played a match against Silver Lake at Cranberry Valley. And, the girls took the match by storm with a final overall score of 5 ½ to ½. Nice job girls! Sailing had a meet on Tuesday against Old Rochester, but unfortunately fell 3-0 in the end. Shake it off Sharks, next time!

Wednesday was a great day as one of our Sharks signed her letter of intent to play field hockey! Aoife Daly will be attending Colby Sawyer next year, and will be back on the field! Aoife was surrounded with her family and friends while she signed, and deserves a big congratulations! Nice job Aoife!

On Wednesday, Sailing had a meet against Sandwich. It was a windy one, which made for a tough meet. In the end, the Sharks fell 4-1 to the Sandwich Blue Knights. But, great efforts by all.

Girls track had a meet on Wednesday against Sandwich. The girls gave it their all, but Lost 49-67. A close one girls, nice efforts! Boys track also had a meet against Sandwich, and walked out with a win 76.5 to 64.5. Great job to all our runners!

Even though Sharks football isn’t entirely back, some of our Seniors have been up to something! Isaac Hart has committed to UMass Dartmouth for football, and Chevar Shakespeare has committed to Curry College for football as well! Hard work pays off! Best of luck to you both next year!

On Thursday, our Sharks were busy! Our Boys Baseball team had a big win over Sturgis West 11-7! Great job boys! Softball also had a big win over Sturgis West 18-6, and showed great confidence on the field! Both of our tennis teams had big wins over Cape Cod Academy on Thursday(Boys: 3-2, Girls 4-1). Great matches Sharks! Sailing had a tough meet against Martha’s Vineyard, and ended up falling to MV 4-0. Girls Golf had a trip to Brockton against Cardinal Spellman, and walked out with a win 6-0. Great job to all of our teams!

Well, it’s been a week! Hopefully the sky’s clear up from here on out! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!

  • A shout out to Mrs. Wheaton for being so flexible with working around the AP Program, pre-administration, and testing during the month of May. your teamwork is certainly appreciated. -Mr. Jonathan Bennett

  • Its a busy day at MRHS every minute of every hour, but today, as I was coming from the Health Office I stopped to "smell the roses". The roses in this case, quite a distance down an otherwise vacant hallway, was Michelle Sandarangani and her student, walking merrily down the hall; hand in hand. I felt myself privileged to witness this glimpse of genuineness from Ms. S to her student, observed totally unbeknownst to the two of them. They turned the corner and went out of sight, and I thought how wonderful to have the likes of Ms. S here at our school, caring for our students. Keep spreading those beautiful random acts of kindness Ms. S, hopefully they are contagious! -Mrs. Janet Ferro

  • Shark shout out to Kari Flint for being the most amazing co-chaperone of all time during the Iceland trip. She bravely took the early (windier) flight to Iceland, counted up kids accurately despite having no sleep, and gamely wielded an axe in the name of entertainment. Thanks for being there for the students! -Mrs. Rachel Barnes
