Staying In-the-Know

with Ms. Cloyd & Mrs. Drayton

Welcome Back

This week was filled with get to know you activities that were not only fun, but also meaningful. Through game, we explored and discussed the importance of perseverance, team-work, and understanding. As a class, we will work together and challenge each other to learn. It won't always be easy, but things that are worthwhile typically aren't. Please know that you are your child's first and most important teacher. The success we will have this year is a reflection of the teamwork that happens between us. Thank you in advance for your efforts at home.

We will begin our study of the Reconstruction. This is the rebuilding of America after the Civil War. You will see notes in your child's SS notebook. Let's work to establish strong study habits early in the year. Have your child explain our discussions to you at home. Our reading lessons are grounded in a Reconstruction text. Our focus for next week will be making inferences. Also, we will begin our writing unit with a focus on sharing our stories by telling them. In order to have a strong written story, it must first be told. Please allow your child to bring in three artifacts Monday (pictures or items small enough to fit in a book bag). I can't wait to hear the amazing stories that will be told next week. I'll have my own to share, as well. So, feel free to ask about it Monday evening. :-)

I'm sure many of you will notice that math is different this year. We have adopted a new math curriculum and textbook that we believe will be a great fit for us. I look forward to assisting your child as they review and strengthen their skills. Our class will be sharpening our knowledge and application of fractions and decimals, next week. In science, your child will begin their study and exploration of landforms. This will include investigating maps and models.
