The Wilmot Word: 12-10-21
What a Great Week We Had at Wilmot
I want to give a huge shout out to the Wilmot PTO!!! Thank you for organizing our annual Holiday Shop. This year we went mobile and brought the shopping to the students in their classrooms. It was so much fun to watch the students enjoy this Wilmot tradition as they purchased small gifts for family and friends. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this event a huge success.
Last night we had our first in-person band concert in almost two years. The fifth graders did a great job under the direction of our band director, Mr. Zmuda. Way to go!!
Team Give students have been busy publicizing and planning events such as Operation Snowflake and the Holiday Lights Tour.

Operation Snowflake - Last Call
If you have not already dropped off your gifts (or signed up) for Operation Snowflake, feel free to bring them by on Monday. A few parents have asked for one more extension to accommodate last minute shopping trips. There are some items remaining on the SignUp genius. We are also collecting gift cards (Target, AAmazon, Jewel, Gas etc.). The Wilmot community has been so kind and generous and I thank each of you for your support. SHIELD Testing (Change in Date Week of: 12-13) - Please Read
Wilmot will hold our weekly Shield testing next week on Monday, December 13. This will replace the testing originally scheduled for Thursday, December 16.
As a reminder, we SHIELD tested yesterday, December 9th, and results may not come in until the early hours of Saturday. Please continue to be diligent as you head into the weekend in the event that your child tests positive. Due to increased testing volume across Illinois, DPS109 now receives SHIELD results within 48 hours.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO FILL OUT THE SHIELD CONSENT FORM please
log in to Skyward/Family Access and it should appear as a green box next to your child’s name. Contact Kristen Neu (kneu@dps109.org) with any Family Access questions.
IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO OPT OUT OF A WEEK OF TESTING…
- Click here to fill out the required Google Form by 8:00 am each Wednesday (the day prior to Thursday testing):
OPTIONAL VACCINE DISCLOSURE FOR STUDENTS AGES 5+
Many families have recently chosen to have their 5-11-year-old student vaccinated.
As a reminder, your child is not considered fully vaccinated until two weeks after receiving their second dose.
You can complete an optional form in Family Access to let DPS 109 know that your child is vaccinated. This is the same form that was made available to students ages 12 and older earlier this year. Please click below to log into Family Access.
Why are we asking for this information?
A major benefit of completing the form is that if your child is deemed to be a close contact to a positive case, either in school or outside of it, our contact tracing team will quickly be able to potentially rule out quarantine for those that have voluntarily disclosed their child’s vaccination status or minimize the number of additional tests required to participate in the test to stay program.
Again, filling out this form is entirely optional. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to communications@dps109.org and we will put you in touch with the appropriate department.

Wilmot's Cold Weather Information (2nd posting)
Many factors are considered when we make a decision to have recess and/or PE inside or outside. These include the temperature and the windchill, as well as the conditions of our playgrounds and blacktop areas (e.g. snow, ice or water). We will go outside if it is 20 degrees or higher and at or above 15 degrees with the windchill (assuming the playgrounds and blacktops are safe). The decision to go outside is often made right before recess or PE, and therefore, we request that all students are prepared to go outside each and every day. Please send students with the proper clothing (labeled with your child's name) including long pants, a coat, hat, gloves, boots, snow pants etc. I know that many students feel more comfortable in the building wearing shorts. I am suggesting that students wear or bring pants to use when they go outside.
Missed Our Text, Phone Call, or Email Test This Week?
We tested our mass notification system on Wednesday at noon so that we can ensure we have the best way to reach you in the event we need to! If you didn't receive one or more of the text, call, or email, contact communications@dps109.org and we will help troubleshoot!
