Not a Nut Free School
Please note that ADS is not a “nut-free school”. However, if there are students in your child’s class who do have severe food allergies that warrant the need to have an epipen nearby at all times, then that class will be free of that food. If that is the case, you will receive a letter notifying you of what food(s) to avoid. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter!
Picture Day
Halloween
On Friday, October 29th the students will be enjoying Halloween activities. Please send your child all dressed up in the morning. A special day has been planned for them.
Virtual Open House/Curriculum Night
This year’s Open House will be flipped. The teachers (grades 1-6) will be in contact with you to send you a short video or presentation which they would like you to watch prior to the Zoom night. Then, the night of the Zoom, please come prepared with your questions so that they may be answered. These questions should be general about the day to day running of the classroom. Personal questions about your child or your child’s progress should not be addressed in this format.
ADS Book Muncher
Our ADS Book Muncher is finally up and running. The idea is that a student brings a book that they have read and no longer want. They put it in the Book Muncher and take a book from the Muncher to bring home.
A big thank you to Mme Tamara for painting the Book Muncher this year. It looks beautiful!

Fire Drill and Lock Down Practices: The Eastern Township School Board and ADS Elementary School take their responsibilities very seriously, to ensure the safety and well-being of your child/children. As part of our Safe School Policy, we have procedures to secure the building, in the event of an emergency. As you may be aware, our school, in accordance with the procedures and along with all the schools of our School Boards, has established a Local Emergency Response Team (LERT). This team, composed of staff from all sectors, is being trained to respond to different types of emergencies that may arise. Our first Fire Drill practice will be on September 21st.
As a result, we will be practicing what to do if an emergency arises. We will be holding multiple fire-drills at various times in the months of September and October. In addition to fire drills, our school is ready to implement drills for what is termed a “Lockdown”. A “Lockdown” will be initiated should a high-risk incident involving an intruder, or similar threat, occur. During a “Lockdown”, staff will direct and accompany students in securing themselves in their classrooms or other safe rooms, until such time school officials declare that the danger is past.
In order for all students and staff to become familiar with the expectations during a lockdown, our school will practice emergency lockdown procedures on a regular basis, just as we do with fire drills. Our first lockdown drill will be on October 19th.
Our school’s LERT is actively working to prepare and be ready for any new procedures. Please expect that your child/children may discuss this event with you, or ask you questions about it. Take advantage of this opportunity to assure them that these are only precautionary measures for their safety. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Student Absences & Transportation: Thank you for your ongoing cooperation in sending advance written requests for any changes to your child’s transportation routine. In addition, thank you as well for advising us when your child will be absent from school. If you are not yet doing this, please remember the rules regarding changes in daycare, transportation (including pick up), as well as the rules regarding leaving a phone message to explain your child’s absence from school. All of these rules are for the safety of our students.
Message From Transportation: In previous years we have been able to offer temporary bus passes to students for one-time changes to their transportation. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, it is not possible to accommodate these requests. So unfortunately, no temporary bus passes will be issued during the 2021-2022 school year. We thank you for your understanding during this health crisis.
Daycare: Daycare will be open for the Sept. 24th and October 15th planning days. Priority is given to students already registered in daycare. If you wish to register your child for these days, please call the office. The cost of the day is 20$ per child.
Emergency Forms/Authorizations: It is imperative that we receive accurate updated information, including contact numbers where we can reach you or a delegate in the event of an emergency. It is very important that you fill out the form in full. Please note that in cases where we have not received complete and updated information we will have no choice but to contact the authorities should we be unable to reach a parental authority in an emergency
