Dear Strath Haven High School Community,
Congratulations, you have completed your first full week of the 22-23 school year!! Last night was also out first Home and School meeting. Thank you to all of the parents who joined us. These meetings are always a great opportunity to connect, and I personally enjoy our conversations.
September is National Suicide Awareness month. At tonight's football game there will be a mental health awareness booth staffed by our district's student services team. We hope to see you all at the game!
Have a great weekend,
Dr. Hilden
In this issue
- Preliminary PSAT 10/11 Information (October 12 test date).
- Activities Fair (Friday, September 23 during all lunches)

- FEE: The PSAT is being offered at no cost to all students in grades 10 and 11.
- LOCATIONS: Students will be providing testing room information approximately one week prior to the exam.
- ACCOMMODATED TESTING: SHHS will administer the PSAT with all approved College Board accommodations to students. If you have questions about your student's eligibility for accommodated testing, please contact your child's case manager or Ms. Regina Hollis, Special Education Department Chair (rhollis@wssd.org).
Why is the PSAT/NMSQT important?
It connects students to more than $235 million in scholarships, including the National Merit® Scholarship Program. If your child opts into the free Student Search Service®, scholarship providers will invite them to apply. *Only students in 11th grade are eligible to participate in NMSQT.
It's excellent practice for the SAT. Both tests measure the same knowledge and skills and ask the same types of questions, so PSAT/NMSQT takers will know what to expect on the SAT.
How to prepare for the PSAT
The best way your child can prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT is to pay attention in their high school classes and study the course material. Students who do well in school are likely to do well on the PSAT/NMSQT.
Because the PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT focus on the same subject areas and ask the same types of questions, your child can use Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy to practice for the PSAT/NMSQT. It's a free, interactive study tool that provides a personalized practice plan that focuses on exactly what your child needs to stay on track for college.
Your child can download and print official PSAT/NMSQT practice tests, as well as online sample questions with answer explanations.
Questions? Please contact Tabatha Duffy (tduffy@wssd.org) or Andrea LaPira (alapira@wssd.org).

This event will be held on September 23rd from 5-10 PM at the Creekside Swim Club (rain date September 25th 12-5 PM) It is the biggest fundraiser that we run to finance the extravagant after-prom party that is meant to keep our children safe after their prom, in place of other non-sanctioned, off-site options. It is an amazing event where the entire gym is decorated, and features food, soft drinks, games, and of course music and dancing. Without your help we will not be able to put this event on. Please sign up -- and have your seniors sign up -- so we can make the $40,000 needed to make this event an evening our kids will never forget! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409054EADAA2DA1FE3-shhs
