December Newsletter
Dodgeland Elementary School
As the season starts to change, our recess time gets a bit colder! Please send hats, mittens/gloves and warm coats to school. Snow pants and boots keep us warm even if there is no snow outside to play in too.
Finally, we are still committed to our safety precautions of frequent hand washing, sanitizing frequently used surfaces, emphasizing social distancing, consistent mask wearing at school, and following strict quarantine guidelines. We want to be at school learning and growing, so these procedures are necessary. If you have any questions, please contact the Elementary office.

5th Grade News
It’s hard to believe that the holidays are right around the corner! The 5th grade has been very busy this year and has adapted well to the quick changes to virtual learning. We have just recently finished our first units in math, writing, and social studies. In science we are continuing to learn about the states of matter and will soon move into particles. We have now moved on to our first reading unit and will be launching our fiction book clubs very soon! One way in which we prepare for discussions is to record our thoughts during reading by using stop-n-jots along the way. Check to see if your student has some of these in their book as they are reading. These are a great way to keep the flow of discussion moving during our book clubs. In math we are now working on comparing, adding, and subtracting decimals. Students in social studies have been learning about several current events lately, including the election and Veterans Day. We have also just tested our knowledge of the states. Many of us have earned Dojo Dollars as a result of this! We will soon be moving on to learning our capitals and will also be learning about the 13 colonies.
As we move into December, we look forward to a busy and festive, yet productive month!

News from our 4K and Early Childhood Classrooms
These first few months we have been focusing on routines, getting to know each other and basic expectations for school. We have been working on identifying red and green choices. Red choices are the behaviors we try to avoid while green choices are our desired choices. We continue to work on calm down strategies with our students and problem solving skills. Some expectations that we continue to practice are eyes watching, ears listening, voices quiet and bodies calm. We have been working hard at identifying our name and the letters in our names. We encourage you to play letter games with your child. Additionally, we have been playing lots of shape and color games. I Spy is a popular game that you can play anywhere!
