Message from the Principal
Greetings IHCS Families,
The Local Control Funding Formula is a huge opportunity for parents to shape the vision for their children’s education. As California’s new school funding law, the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) is a way for schools to focus on student success. The LCFF requires school districts to involve parents in planning and decision-making as well as in developing Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs). Therefore, to ensure that IHCS involves parents, on March 25th and April 22nd LCAP Engagement meetings will be taking place in lieu of Coffee with the Principal. The following is the schedule:
March 25th-9:00am-10:00-English
March 25th-10:00am-11:00am-Spanish
April 22nd-9:00am-10:00am-Spanish
April 22nd-10:00am-11:00am-English

Music Note
Sometimes in music we like to do activities beyond singing songs and playing instruments. Recently the 5th grade students were learning about a style of music called Impressionism. Like the Impressionist painters, these songs focused on the emotions and mood of a musical scene. Students were asked to create a drawing inspired by the song “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy.
In middle school, practicing concert music can be very repetitive sometimes so we need to sometimes find something to break up the repetition. So the band students were asked to take a photo of just their instrument and create an “artistic” portrait.

Fostering a love for learning is the goal of every teacher. Ensuring your students feel they can confidently navigate their learning journey’s ups and downs is a big part of that, making it incredibly important to help your students feel safe while challenging themselves and making mistakes. Teachers can achieve this in so many ways! One of the best ways to do this is by offering positive feedback when students make a mistake and supporting them to learn from this experience.
If done carelessly, correcting students can do more bad than good. Blunt phrases such as “That’s wrong”, “No”, and “That’s a mistake” do little to help students learn from their mistakes and can damage their self-belief and confidence to try new things. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that you should only give feedback when students get something right! We all know that correcting students is essential for understanding and also for building resiliency. Providing constructive, critical feedback to our students is important, but how we deliver our feedback is vital.
Providing feedback is so important for student learning! However, being strategic about how you do it can help your students in a variety of ways. Below are some examples of some positive ways to give students corrective feedback!
