5th Grade at Bear Creek Elementary
Week 11: October 25th - October 29th
Dear Families,
This Friday (10/29) all Bear Creek students (and staff) are allowed to dress up for Halloween. Please make sure your child's costume is school appropriate and not too scary (we have Pre-K in the building and don't want to frighten them). Dressing up is optional and the students do not have to if they do not feel like it.
Next week (11/2), all of the fifth graders will log into Zoom and have a chance to chat with AISD's Magnet programs (Kealing - STEM, Lively - Humanities and Ann Richards - All girls). Each program will provide the students with information about their school and the application process. They will be able to ask any questions they may have at the end of the session. We will send out information to all parents regarding middle school and magnet programs as soon as we receive it.
This week Ms. Grotte's homeroom will go to the library with Mrs. Saenz and Mr. Linnell's class will have a counseling lesson with Ms. Devins.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you ever have any questions or concerns:
Sincerely,
Ms. Grotte and Mr. Linnell

What we're doing in class this week...
Social Studies: We have finally arrived at the American Revolution. After a few weeks of studying the causes leading up to the revolution, we will be discussing the battles and events that happened during the American Revolution.
ELAR: We are going to be drafting, editing and revising our creative writing piece inspired by Harris Burdick's art. Students are going to be practicing sensory detail and figurative language in their writing. We are also covering the roots -gram, and -graph, both meaning "write".
Math: We are working on dividing decimals. See your child's weekly Personal Learning Path (PLP) for more information. To see how your child is performing academically, feel free to check their "Progress Monitoring Sheet". You can also check the "Study Guide" BLEND page for tips on how to help your child in math.
Science: We are learning about changes to Earth's surface. We will discuss the difference between weathering, erosion and deposition. See your child's weekly Personal Learning Path (PLP) for more information. To see how your child is performing academically, feel free to check their "Progress Monitoring Sheet". You can also check the "Study Guide" BLEND page for tips on how to help your child in science.
