Family Update
Dublin Jerome High School
Take Responsibility, Always Growing, Better Together
January 20, 2023
A message from me...
Good Afternoon!
A couple of words that I have kept running into over the last month have been intentional and reflective. My kids sometimes say "I didn't mean to" which implies lack of intent, however, being unintentional is intentional. Intended or not our behaviors and actions still have an impact on us, another person or group of people.
As a part of our culture work a school has been recognizing the difference between default and discipline. Many times we act in default. When we react or behave in default we are impulsive, on auto-pilot, and resistant. (We all have our default self. Default Mike is real!) However, when we respond with discipline, we act with intention, purpose, and skill.
A challenge I have given our staff and students is to respond with discipline more often than by default. Are we going to be able to do it every single time, no, but if we do it more often than not our outcomes to events will be much more desirable and effective.
I would challenge our Jerome families to give it a try over the next couple of weeks and reflect on some times that you responded with default behaviors and a time or two you responded with discipline. I can assure you those disciplined responses were more posiitve and made a difference.
Better Together,
Mike
Weekly Schedule
Construction Update (1.20.23)
- Ceilings have been removed in A-C areas. This will allow for above the ceiling work connecting new and existing lines.
- Framing for 1st floor touchdown spaces has begun.
- New addition continues with drywall, electrical, exterior brick work.
The warm weather is helping in some ways but the rain is a bit of a nuisance.
2nd Floor Touchdown Space
A Wing Touchdown Spaces
C-Wing Ceiling Removal
December Celtic Way
Parking Reminders from Mr. P
- If you got your license over break and would like to drive to school you need a parking pass. Please stop by in the main office to see Mr. P and he will help. As a note we are nearing our max number of passes and are monitoring closely.
- We have a number of students that have passes but are not displaying them. Please be sure you have your tag visible next week!
- Please remember not to park in visitors' spots We have enough spaces we would like to keep those available for visitors and guest teachers.
Hyland Croy Drop Off
As we continue to grow in our northwest quadrant traffic is becoming more difficult to navigate. If you drop off on the Hyland Croy side of the building please note that making a left hand turn will be difficult with traffic coming south.
Our suggestion is that if you are dropping off, please do so on the Brand Road side. This will allow you to turn right our to the lot and quickly exit to the round about.

Scheduling and Advisement Timeline
January 12-24: Course and Individual Advisement
Jerome staff will provide course and individual advisement to students in their classes. This is a very important component our our process and students will have to ask questions and discuss next step with their teachers.
We are also asking that parents discuss scheduling options with their child and sign off on their course selections. This will affirm that a discussion took place. Please remember we build our schedule and staff to appropriate levels based on these course requests. Making schedule changes in the beginning of next year are difficult and options are limited.
January 25-Feb. 10: Schedule Collection
Students will meet with their school counselor and review their course requests in SchoolLinks. School counselors will approve selections at that time. In spring families will receive course confirmation of these requests and will be able to make adjustments if necessary prior to summer.

Jerome Students--DYA NEEDS YOU!
Dublin Youth Athletics (βDYAβ) needs YOU for the upcoming RECREATIONAL BASEBALL & SOFTBALL SEASON! We need high school aged players, umpires, and field crews.
- HIGH SCHOOL RECREATIONAL BASEBALL & SOFTBALL PLAYERS β High School DYA Recreational Baseball & Softball teams play in local community-based leagues with other teams from Northwest Columbus! - UMPIRES β We need HIGH SCHOOL AGED umpires (boys & girls welcome!) for the upcoming season for our recreational baseball & softball youth leagues (umpires are needed for our leagues that host ages from 3rd grade up thru middle school). This is a GREAT way to make some spending money!! The amount of money varies by league, age and umpire position (plate or bases) but varies between $ 25 and $ 50 per game. You schedule your own games, work as much as you like. Training provided. To register, just go to www.dya.com
- Field Crews: DYA will be hiring high school-aged students to assist with field maintenance for our softball and baseball programs for the Spring/Summer season. The program begins on April 1 and runs through July 15, 2023. Work is performed at Darree, Avery North and South, and Emerald Parks. Duties include lining and raking fields and setting bases. Girls Prom
Dublin Coffman Multicultural Club is pleased to invite all Dublin High School girls to the 2023 Girls Prom on May 6 from 6 - 8 pm at the Dublin Rec Center. This has been a tradition at Coffman for 16 years, and this year, we welcome all girls wanting to attend.
Why Girls Prom? Some of our girls come from conservative families who do not allow them to attend co-ed dances, and some girls are simply uncomfortable at school dances. Girls from all backgrounds come together, some dress up though it's not required, and literally get to let their hair down.
If any female staff would like to attend or help out, you are more than welcome. Please contact Danielle Dehmani-Roberts at Coffman for more details.
Buckeye Boys and Girls State
Buckeye Boys and Girls State is an opportunity for all students to participate in a government simulation with students from around the state. You will run for city, county, and state office, work with officials from each area of government, and gain first hand knowledge of the political process. Any student interested in Buckeye Boys and Girls State should see Mr. Rice in C106.
Have an Old Camera? Donate to DJHS
Do you have a manual SLR film camera gathering dust that you would love to put to good use? Consider donating it to the Photography department at DJHS! The Photography class explores darkroom photography and could really use more camera equipment.
If you have a camera to donate, please send it with your student to school and have them deliver it to the main office, where there will be a box clearly labeled "Camera Donation".
Direct any questions, such as whether your camera is the right type, to Mrs. Brown: brown_marlo@dublinschools.net
Thank you for your consideration!

CELTS, LEAVE YOUR MARK AT DUBLIN JEROME WITH A COMMEMORATIVE BRICK
With the new addition to Dublin Jerome High School, the commemorative brick patio is also getting some additionsβ¦ your personalized Celtic Brick. The current brick patio was installed in 2014 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the DJHS as a gift from that yearβs senior class. Who knew that less than 10 years later, we would need the current additions to accommodate the incredible growth in our schools? The original patio will be relocated to the front of the school near the new school addition in the summer of 2023. The relocation allows us to add additional bricks to complement the original memorial bricks.
This is your opportunity to purchase a beautiful, engraved brick paver to celebrate and memorialize students, alumni, school team, club, organization, or your favorite teacher in a meaningful and unique way that is forever set in stone.
Fill out the information below to purchase your Celt Brick and then donβt forget to come to see your commemorative brick during the grand opening of the school next fall.
4x8 bricks are $100 and can have up to 4 lines with up to 21 characters per line (Recommended: 3 lines, 18 characters). All proceeds go directly to the PTO to support all students and teachers at Dublin Jerome.
