December Continuous Improvement Tasks
December is the time to continue to collect and look at process and perception data and to get ready to complete your Comprehensive Needs Assessment in March.
Perception data should now be collected or a plan should be in place for how and when to collect it. The Assist and eProve surveys in AdvancEd are available, but there are many other ways to collect perception data. One popular recommendation is the School Climate Survey.
If you're not planning to do the School Systems Review, decide now how else you might already be collecting process data. Examples: District Capacity Assessment, Tiered Fidelity Inventory, Reading Tiered Fidelity Inventory.

Continuous Improvement Conference Updates (MICIP)
The Michigan Continuous Improvement Conference was held on November 18 and 19 in Lansing. This was formerly known as the School Improvement Conference.
- Here are my notes from the Keynote Presentations
- Here are notes from many of the breakout sessions (courtesy of the SI Timeline Starfish team!)
Main Takeaways
- The MICIP Process is coming together, but we will be using ASSIST again for our School and District plans this year. There will be some pilot processes in the 20/21 school year.
- This is still a great time to become familiar with the process and even start using some of the tools available. This will make for a smoother transition in the future.

December State & Federal Program Tasks
The only task on the State and Federal Program Compliance Calendar for December and January is to work on and submit amendments (see below).
Amendment Time
Amendments aren't due until January 15th 2020, but it feels great if you're able to complete the process before the holidays. It is best practice for program and business office people to work together on the amendments:
Make sure Munis lines up with MEGS+ budgets
The business office has the correct list of personnel that are fully or partially funded from state or federal sources.
Document it as a Quarterly Budget Review
Amendments and Private Schools
Also with amendments, be sure to document contact with private schools and update any programming. If you are in a Memorandum of Agreement with another district that is providing services to private school students, update the the Agreement with the actual amount of funding.
Even a small mistake with Private Schools documentation can send you back to square one on your Consolidated App amendment. Be sure you're working closely with your OFS Field Service Rep through the process.
31a Update
- Intent and purpose remains the same
- At-risk eligible identification criteria remains the same
- Assurances to receive 31a remain the same
- Cap on PD is increased to 7.5%
- Schoolwide reform provision has updated language
- New provisions for schools with CEP status
