Be Kind and Support A Solider
Our soldiers need your support! Attention WHES HEROES!
The Service Learning Club of Whittier is sponsoring a Soldier Care Package Drive
From January 22nd -February 2nd. Donation box will be by the school store.
We are looking for non-perishable items.
Items include:
- Hygiene Products
- Baby wipes
- Nuts
- Beef Jerky
- Slim Jims
- Dried Fruit
- Candy
- Socks
- Granola bars
- Packaged cookies
- Batteries- all sizes
We will need monetary donations to ship our boxes, if you would like to support our project in this way, you can send cash or check to the front office.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Jump Rope for Heart is coming back to Whittier Elementary! Students in Grades 1- 5 will have their kickoff on January 26th with Samantha Gano from the American Heart Association. Your student will become a Heart Hero by taking care of his/her own heart, spreading the message of the American Heart Association and raising funds for lifesaving research.
Have your student jump online at heart.org/jump to take one of our three health challenges, send emails and ask for donations. ANY STUDENT WHO GOES ONLINE AND TAKES THE CHALLENGE GETS A GLOW IN THE DARK WRISTBAND. ANY STUDENT WHO GETS A DONATION WILL BE RECOGNIZED AND RECEIVE A CARABINER.

Our Technology Book Fair will be arriving soon! Our school will receive 25% of sales for our technology fund to add more Chromebooks into our classrooms.

Congratulations to our Honor's Chorus Representatives
Congratulations to Gabby Frietas, Katie DeGirolamo, Abby Mongan, Charlotte Tanner, and Ella Wirth who will be joining students from all FCPS schools to perform in the Honor's Choral Performance in April. These students are participating in additional practices each week. Thank you for representing our school so well!

Play Details
- Title: The Rockin' Snow White
- Mandatory Parent Meeting - will be held January 25th @ 6:30 pm
- Rehearsal dates- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00pm beginning 1/31
- Volunteer Requirements for parents- All parents must sign up to monitor at least 2 play practices, one rehearsal evening, and work one evening of the play performance. Failure to do so will result in your child's dismissal from the play.
- Play performance dates: Friday April 27th and Saturday April 28th.
- Cost to participate: $50 per student

FCPS Magnet Program Information
The Magnet Program is designed for academically gifted students in Grades 3 – 5 with superior performance in both language arts and mathematics. Nomination booklets, which will be available beginning January 31, 2018, may be obtained from the school office, the FCPS Office of Advanced Academics or online at http://www.fcps.org/advacademics. After January 31, 2018, the Office of Advanced Academics will be accepting nominations of present second through fourth grade students for possible placement in the magnet program for the 2018 - 2019 school year.
Students may be nominated for the magnet program by school staff, parents or jointly. Parents and teachers are encouraged to review information, including some characteristics of gifted students that is posted at http://www.fcps.org/advacademics. Teacher nominations, parent nominations and a completed Parent/Guardian Rating Form are due in the school office by March 1, 2018, so that tests can be administered and information required to complete the nomination packet may be gathered by school staff.
A Magnet Program Overview for parents interested in nominating their child will be held on February 1, 2018, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Central Office (191 South East Street). Parking is available in the East All Saints Street parking deck or in the parking lot located next to the Central Office off of East All Saints Street. Accessible parking is located in the Commerce Street lot located behind the Central Office. Enter the Board Room at the front of the building. The overview will include components of the magnet program and the processes leading to placement. Please note that this meeting is designed for parents, not students. The snow date for this meeting is February 8, 2018 at the same time and location. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Advanced Academics at 301-696-6891.
