Meet our new Director of Special Education and Student Services
Kelli Weiss-Golatke
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself to you as the new Director of Special Education and Student Services for the Glendale River Hills School District. I am thrilled to be here. I come to you with over twenty years of experience serving students with special needs. I am passionate about the role of public education in the lives of children, their families, and the communities in which they live. I am honored to have been invited to join this great school community and to lead a talented department devoted to serving students and their families. I’ve met and spoken with administrators, principals, faculty, staff and parents. A theme I’ve heard repeated is that in Glendale-River Hills, decisions are based on what’s in the best interest of students.
I’ve learned about Glendale River Hill’s systems and structures in place to support students and their families, as well as faculty and staff suggestions and wishes for strengthening our practices and processes. I look forward to continuing these conversations, listening and learning more as we work together this school year.
Department of Public Instruction new guidance for schools for the 2022-2023 school year on COVID-19
Department of Public Instruction posted new guidance for schools for the 2022-2023 school year on the COVID-19 Information for School Health Services webpage. This guidance is reflective of DPI’s commitment and focus on equity, both educational equity and health equity. We understand that keeping students healthy is how we keep our educators healthy, our families healthy, our communities healthy, and our health care system able to care for us in times of need. Students need to be healthy and safe to learn.
While DPI continues to work in consultation with the Department of Health Services (DHS) in support of the CDC guidance for schools, DPI is recommending a measured approach for managing COVID-19 for the 2022-2023 school year. We recognize the tremendous burden mitigating and controlling the spread of COVID-19 has been on students’ education and the staff responsible for implementing mitigation measures, and the effect such measures have had on families over the past two plus years.
The DHS has yet to publish school specific guidance for this school year. Once published, the DPI document will be updated to reference the DHS guidelines.
