NATURAL GAS
Producing natural gas can be hard to find since it is trapped in porous rocks deep underground. Scientists use many methods to find natural gas deposits. They may look at surface rocks to find clues about underground formations. They may set off small explosions or drop heavy weights on the surface to record the sound waves as they bounce back from the rock layers underground.
Is it renewable or nonrenewable?
non-renewable resource is a natural resources which cannot be reproduced, grown, generated, or used on a scale which can sustain its consumption rate; once depleted there will be no more available for future use. Natural gas is a non-renewable resource.
ARE THERE OTHER PRODUCTS CREATED OR USES FOR THIS ENERGY?
There are so many different applications for this fossil fuel that it is hard to provide an exhaustive list of everything it is used for. And no doubt, new uses are being discovered all the time. To learn more about technological advancements in the natural gas industry, click here. Natural gas has many applications, commercially, in your home, in industry, and even in the transportation sector! While the uses described here are not exhaustive, they may help to show just how many things natural gas can do.
HOW DOES NATURAL GAS PRODUCE ENERGY
The most common way natural gas is used to produce energy is to burn the gas; the heat is transferred to water, which creates steam, which turns giant turbines. These produce the electricity that is then transferred to power lines for transmission to homes and businesses. (see picture above)
