MISD Colors For Caring Day
The first Colors for Caring Day of the 2019-20 school year will be on Monday, Sept. 9!
What is Colors for Caring?
No one should fight cancer alone. That’s why on the first Monday of each month that students are in school, Mansfield ISD is encouraging the community to wear a color that represents a cancer that affected the life of a loved one. (View a cancer color chart here.)
1st Grading Period Progress Report Grades
- In an effort to "Go Green", we will not print Progress Reports each grading period. Grades are always current and live in Skyward.
- Progress Report Grades for the 1st grading period were posted to Skyward this past Thursday, September 5.
- Contact your child's teacher(s) if you have questions or concerns about your child's grades.
Our First Mental Monday Activity - Affirmations
Our first Mental Monday Activity will be Monday, September 9, during Husky Time (or Tuesday for those who have Monday Recess).
A part of our Capturing Kids' Hearts culture is knowing how to give both verbal and written affirmations. This first Mental Monday Activity will be to explain the power of written affirmations to the students, and to let them practice affirming themselves and others.
Students will do the following:
- Watch and discuss the video on the power of giving a compliment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OBgdoAmuwI
- Do affirmation starters activity and be given a “My Positive Thoughts and Affirmations” sheet
- Brainstorm some positive thoughts and affirmations to say to themselves using this sheet.
- Write an affirmation to themselves to keep in their binder along with their positive thoughts sheet.
- Get an “Example Affirmations” sheet for them to keep in their binder
- Partner up with 1 or 2 other students and discuss 3-4 of these conversation starters:
What is something you struggled with last year and how did you overcome it?
What is one thing you would like to change about yourself?
What adjectives, words or phrases would people use to describe you and why?
- Write an affirmation to their partner(s) from the above activity
- Write an affirmation to one of their teachers (either present or past)

Guidance Lessons
- Ms. Douglas talked to our students last week about Effort, and she explained how their level of effort will equal their level of results. She challenged them to come up with something they need to put more effort in this year and had them come up with 3 things they are going to do to help with that. In April she will follow up with their progress.
- Ms. Cottle visited her students this week discussing the transition to Intermediate school. She discussed how to effectively use their planner, what a zero does to their grade, and keeping up with hygiene.
Reminder that our first Taco Bout it Tuesday is coming up on 9/17/2019 from 6:30- 7:30. The topic will be Goals and Growth. Come hungry because there will be tacos served.
Please RSVP lindsaycottle@misdmail.org if you are able to come. Mark your calendar for future Taco Bout it Tuesday dates…12/17, 2/18, and 4/2.
School-Wide Reading Initiative Continues!
This will be Icenhower's 2nd year implementing our School-Wide Reading Initiative where all student will be required to read a certain amount of books from several genres for the school year (more information to come from your child's Language Arts teachers)! All staff members also join in on this challenge (including our administrative team)!
Our teachers will continue to build their classroom libraries to give students and staff a wide variety of books to choose from, and any books you no longer use would be greatly appreciated!
You can drop off your donated books in either the front office or give them to your child's Language Arts teacher!
Friendly reminder about students arriving before 8:00 AM
Icenhower staff begins their duty day at 8:00 AM. Students who are dropped off before 8:00 AM will not be supervised.
The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Please make sure your student is picked up in a timely manner.
No Messages will be delivered after 3:00 PM
We understand that emergency situations can come up, and those will be handled accordingly.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please follow the arrival and dismissal procedures as explained below. Parent drop off and pick WILL BE in the front, and these procedures MUST be followed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Everything will go much smoother if everyone follows the correct procedures!
-
Students arriving prior to 8:00am are outside and unsupervised until 8:00am. At 8:00am, students enter the building and report to the gym or to the cafeteria for breakfast. The tardy bell rings at 8:30. Students not in class at this time will report to the office and sign-in as “tardy to school.”
