Proud to Be Your Principal
Happy THURSDAY Firebird Families! It's been so great to see the kids able to enjoy time outdoors this week without having to bundle up; helps everyone's learning - and mood! - tremendously!
Take a look at the events and opportunities coming up - have a great weekend, and we hope to see everyone on Monday at STEAM Night!
Proud to be your principal,
Reminders!
- It's the time of year when there are a number of different fees due for different things (field trips, yearbooks, etc.) Please remember that school fees need to be paid for separately - the office doesn't have change, and cannot split checks between several different activities. Thanks for your help!
- No school tomorrow, April 22. Enjoy the 3-day weekend!
Teacher Appreciation Week
How it works: You and your child can work to raise sponsorships/donations, and for every $30 your child collects, you get up to 6 FREE registration for the Color Run! This can be for family members or friends!
For example:
$30 - student gets free entry
$60 - student + 1 free entry
$90 - student + 2 free entries
$120 - student + 3 free entries
Everyone on the course needs to either be listed on a student envelope, or register using the link above.
Students can also earn prizes based on how much they raise. These items are "bling" to add to the fun of the Color Run! Be sure to sign-up online so you can reach out to family members that live far away! The website is located on the Color Run Packet that was sent home with your child - please be sure to read the envelope for additional information! Students should work to collect donations before turning in their fundraising packets on Monday, April 25.

"Counseling Corner"
Feeling ignored by your tween? Or just as bad can be the growing criticism and disagreement from your teen. Arguing with you is a safe way for your teen to test his or her new opinions and ideas.
Be an eParent®! Create opportunities for your teen to “respectfully disagree” by watching online clips of late night or daily news shows together with your teen and discussing your thoughts and opinions.
During the teen years, youth develop stronger beliefs, opinions and convictions. While the constant disagreement can be tiring for parents, there is good news. If your teen is using you to practice his arguments, he may actually be better at saying “no” to poor choices. Research shows that teens experienced in debating with their parents are better at resisting peer pressure. Encourage your child to practice persuading you to see their perspective rather than allowing them to whine or insult you. In one study, teens that successfully held their own opinionand also felt supported by their mom were especially protected from negative peer pressure.
You may enjoy reading how debates with parents can help kids.
