St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 9, Term 4 (Friday 7 December 2018)
Dear Parents and members of our school community
“Let Every Day Be Christmas” by Norman W. Brooks
Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself.
Peace on Earth, good will to men,
kind thoughts and words of cheer,
are things we should use often
and not just once a year.
Remember too the Christ-child, grew up to be a man;
to hide him in a cradle, is not our dear Lord’s plan.
So keep the Christmas spirit, share it with others far and near,
from week to week and month to month, throughout the entire year!
Your years at St Jerome's have come to an end and I hope that as you reflect back over these years, there will be many special memories that make you smile. Another exciting part of your life is about to begin.
May God bless you always and keep you safe.
On behalf of all the staff at St Jerome’s, may I wish every family the joy, hope and happiness that comes at Christmas. I trust that you cherish your loved ones around you. I always find certain Christmas carols to be particularly poignant especially when that person has “ gone to God “
Our Christmas Carols last Friday was well attended and we all enjoyed a lovely night. Many photos are attached.
Yesterday Mrs Roper, Mrs Deering-Ridley and I walked with our school choir to Amberley Aged Care and entertained the residents with a selection of Christmas carols. All in all it has been a beautiful week truly representing the spirit of Christmas.
Our lovely teacher librarian Lorraine Smith, is retiring from teaching after a wonderfully diverse career spanning 43 years. Lorraine has really embraced so many amazing experiences ranging from working as a volunteer on an Israeli Kibbutz to teaching all primary level classes and finally being a passionate teacher librarian in several schools since 1990.
"A library isn't just a library. It is a spaceship that will take you to the furthest reaches of the Universe, a time machine that will take you to the far past and the imagined future, a teacher who knows more than any human being, a friend that will amuse you and console you - and most of all, a gateway, to a better and more useful life." (Isaac Asimor)
I am so grateful to Lorraine for her unwavering belief in the power of a school library to be the learning hub of the school. She has worked tirelessly to create a welcoming space with a wide range of books to cater to all types of readers. Our children are very eager borrowers and it is not unusual to see students ask when a particular book will arrive.
We all wish Lorraine the most fantastic, relaxing and exciting retirement. God bless you Lorraine for this next stage of your life's journey.

What is the P&F?
The Parents and Friends Association is a group of parents and friends whose role is to provide support and assistance to the Principal and staff of the school to enhance the quality of Educational facilities for all children at our school.
This year, as in all other years, the P&F, an energetic group of parents led so well by Sophia Hicks, our President, has provided so many worthwhile items, both large and small for our children.
Thank you Sophia, Daniela, Jodie, Nikki, Mel and your hardworking committee for such a splendid year.
• The P&F represents the interests of the whole parent body.
• It helps parents engage with the school and the education of their children.
• It works to support the school. In relation to fundraising, the Board, the P&F and the Principal work towards shared decisions in relation to the needs of the school and how funds raised by the P&F could best be used to meet the needs of the school.
Our main purpose is to facilitate involvement, contributions and networking between parents, parish and the school.
P&F OBJECTIVES
• To foster a spirit of positive fellowship amongst parents, staff and friends of the school;
• To promote a spirit of genuine cooperation between parents, staff and students of the school;
• To provide financial assistance for the development of the school’s facilities and teaching resources;
• To provide a pathway for parents to be involved in supporting our school;
• Building the community spirit of Sacred Heart by providing opportunities for parents and staff to gather together in a spirit of fun and fellowship.
P&F FUNCTIONS
• To undertake fundraising activities either to meet agreed financial commitments and/or provide facilities for the students and school. Over the years the P&F have made large contributions to the school towards classroom air-conditioning, Interactive whiteboards, Apple TVs, music room equipment, outdoor furniture, robotics, thousands of dollars of reading books, library furniture and the list goes on and on
• To promote a sense of community spirit within the school through the organising of parent and community functions and events, including:
Welcome event, Family Fun Night, Easter Raffle, Mothers’ Day, Quiz Night, Musical Bingo etc
• Responsibility for management and operation of:
School Banking
P&F MEETING DATES
The P&F meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.00pm in the school staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. We are looking for new parents to join the committee. We would gladly welcome YOU. P&F meetings provide you an opportunity to connect with fellow parents, make friends, and learn more about what happens at your child’s school.
Instrumental Music Program 2019
We are seeking expressions of interest from families who are keen for their child/children to learn a musical instrument in 2019. St Jerome's holds a fine reputation in the local community for its Instrumental Music Program over many years. We have produced award winning instrumentalists, bands, ensembles and many music scholarship winners.
Learning an instrument has been shown to have a very positive flow-on effect into other learning areas, especially Mathematics. Bering able to play an instrument can become a life long interest.
Please find attached the Application Form which needs to be completed and emailed to our tutors by the end of the year.
Below is some Information on our Music Tutors who are available for 2019.
