On the trip they will visit multiple art museums and learn about new arts and cultures. This opportunity is open to ANY 8th grade student, but you must apply. Box Top Collection Results!
AV-W school triumphed in January's Box Top competition with 5,355 box tops! MJ1 did a great job, too, and collected 2,650 -- that's $265 for our school just for collecting Box Tops in the month of January alone!!!
Please keep collecting!!!! The Firebird Foundation collects, counts, and submits Box Tops. Our last submission was about $700. These proceeds help to fund programs within our school such as field trips, breakfast with parents events, STEAM Night, STEAM supplies, Artist in Residence, playground equipment, an AED and so much more! Ask family members to help collect too! Thank you for supporting MJ1 Schools!!!
WANTED: Clear Plastic Bottles for STEAM Night
April 12 is Family STEAM Night, and two different grade levels (grades 2 & 4), and Creative Minds, are doing projects that require plastic soda bottles for each student. We are in need of clear plastic soda bottles in the following sizes; 2 liter, 1 liter, 20 oz, and 16 ounce. Pepsi bottles are the perfect size and shape, but others can work also. Please email Mr. Oxley at boxley@mhlt.org if you have questions.
Counseling Corner
Enjoy the REAL “Happy Hour” with your family! Family meals matter for teens’ safety, social skills, and health. Don’t let not knowing what to cook keep you from sharing a family meal with your teen.
Be an eParent®! Spend time together as a family. Start creating a family cookbook of those favorite family recipes and prepare meals together. Planning regular, shared family meals is a great way to spend time with your teen. Teens who participate in family meals several times per week are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as using drugs or drinking alcohol. They also talk more with their parents so parents know more about what is going on in their teen’s life. As a bonus, if you cook with your tween he or she will be better prepared for cooking solo!
