Learners have four hours to complete their test.
First Years
First year learners are completing their CAD community designs for Project Sustain in Mr. Hudnall's Engineering classes. In Math learners are concluding their work with exponential relationships and Algebra I learners are also spending some time reviewing for their EOC next week. In Physics with Mr. Hardy, learners are applying Ohm's Law to electrical circuits. In English with Ms. Wright, first years are reading their book club selections. Project Sustain teams will begin building their scale models of the communities in Mr. McCoy's art/tech classes this week.
Second Years
Project Y is building momentum as learners expend energy into constructing their products and building their brand. The array of ideas geared towards improving someone’s quality of life is both inspiring and exciting. Learners have taken ownership of their unique opportunity to ideate and create a useful item that solves a problem. To facilitate the learning, 2nd years have been given an array of diverse academic endeavors. In Engineering, learners have scripted conversations which will be had with product mentors, explored respiration and photosynthesis in Biology, investigated arcs and the measurements of circles in Geometry, practiced color theory and developed logos using Adobe Illustrator in Art and Technology, and studied character transformations in English. The week ended with an exciting and noisy battle as learners experienced trench warfare in a staged battle with wadded paper ammunition. Win or lose, the learners got an idea of the battle strategies of World War I. Next week will bring mentor contacts, corporate responsibility plans and more product development.
Third Years
Parents, friends, and other stakeholders, the final presentations for Going Viral are fast approaching. In order for our learners to have the best final presentations possible, we will engage in several different rounds of practice leading up to the final event on May 21st and 22nd, including hosting a formal dress rehearsal. In order to have the most realistic dress rehearsal possible, we would love to invite any of you to join us as audience members. Attending the dress rehearsal could be a way to view a presentation that won't fit in your busy schedule on the actual presentation days. Or, you may choose to attend the rehearsal as a way to observe the growth of a presentation undergoes between rehearsal and final production. Whatever your reason for attending a dress rehearsal, we'll be happy to have you. Please RSVP below.
The final presentation schedule was shared with learners at the beginning of the week. They have assured us that they have no conflicts with their presentation time so we are prepared to share the schedule for final presentation day with all of you. Please RSVP below.
Thank you for recognizing how important an authentic audience is to the culmination of the project-based learning experience. We have appreciated your support throughout this year and are very excited to share this culminating activity of the junior year with you now.

Fourth Years
This week the learners continued to play our game “Mars Attacks.” The learners got their second scenario, this time they had to decide what to do with a new group of immigrants from Earth, and refugees from Mars who were looking for help wherever they could find it. The learners also experienced some of the joys of finding new deposits of valuable minerals in their colonies. Next week marks the end of Mars Attacks and the beginning of Maymester. Maymester is a wonderful time of year where learners get to pick the topics they study and the classes they attend. In English this week, groups received two new scenarios. Writing from the point-of-view of their Officer role, learners had the opportunity to consider those scenarios by drafting creative writing responses. In Government this week, learners studied the World Trade Organization. The students had quite the eye-opening experience learning about the controversial rule of consensus voting which often stops the W.T.O. from passing trade agreements. Students also took some time out from foreign policy to learn about the upcoming municipal election set for May 4th. If you are interested in more information on Plano Municipal elections follow this City of Plano link. https://www.plano.gov/312/Elections
In SRD this week, learners completed their final Research Presentations for their Capstone Projects. Learners successfully shared their knowledge, research, data and final product that was developed during the school year 2019-2019. Below is a picture of Arthur Sliter with the prosthetic prototype he created himself as part of his capstone.
Titan Robotics
Robotics had an excellent showing in the Galileo division at workday finishing as quarter finalists and 15th overall.
We also had the pleasure of participating at a part of the state of the district presentation last night.
