The Bee's Knees
September 2021
A Note from the Principal
Changes that will affect us pertain to meetings with parents/guardians. BEC staff have many meetings with parents. WSD now requires all attendees of in person meetings to wear a mask. If for some reason a parent or guardian refuses to wear a mask the meeting will be held virtually. Parent conferences scheduled for October 27 and 28 will be held virtually. Our teachers will send you details about scheduling the parent conferences in a few weeks.
The BOE also raised the threshold for the building based mask mandate. The new threshold is 5%. If BEC has a total of 19 students identified as COVID positive then all BEC staff and students will be expected to wear a mask. You an track the total number of cases here on this WSD page. Use the small left and right arrows to toggle through and see all WSD schools.
Dr Cain and the Cabinet are working exceptionally hard to make sure we keep our students safe and that we keep our schools open for in person attendance. We all have to do our part to ensure that outcome. I greatly appreciate and am impressed by the number of students and staff that wear masks at Barfield. There are no sure things in this world. Wearing a mask is not a 100% guarantee that a COVID transmission will not happen, but it does greatly reduce the likelihood of a transmission. After having experienced the school closure, I will leverage any tactic to gain advantage over the virus to prevent its spread and to keep our school open. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we all take the necessary steps to combat COVID.

Staff Spotlight
I'm Mrs. Jackie, and I've been an Instructional Assistant at Barfield since December of 2020. I have my B.A. in Elementary Education and have loved working with students of all ages throughout my experiences in education (especially early childhood!). My husband, Brett, and I got married in March of 2019. We have two dogs and a cat that we love unconditionally! In my free time, I enjoy volunteering in animal rescue, reading, and coffee dates with my husband and friends.
From the Nurses
* Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease: A blister-like rash that occurs in the mouth, palms and fingers of the hand, and the bottoms of the feet. These sores can last 7-10 days. Runny nose, low-grade fever, and sore throat may accompany rash. Your child will need to stay home until the fever is gone for 24 hours with out the aid of medications.
* Fifth Disease: A rash that causes red cheeks ("slapped cheek"). After the appearance on the cheeks, the rash can move to the arms, upper body, and legs. Your child may have a sore throat or low-grade fever. The rash usually fades in 3-7 days. Your child may remain in school if other rash-causing illnesses are ruled out by a healthcare provider.
* Impetigo: Sores, usually beginning at a break in the skin, that produce a thick golden-yellow discharge that dries and crusts. Your child will need to remain home until 24 hrs of treatment has been completed.
* Molluscum: Small, pale, dome-shaped bumps that can be on the face, body, arms, or legs. The bumps can be flesh colored, white or pink. They are usually painless and rarely are itchy. Your child may come to school. Cover the bumps as much as possible with clothing.

BEC PTO Updates
The BEC PTO Bobo's fundraiser ended this week. With your amazing support we generated $25,157.00 in total sales. The PTO earns 40% of the total, which translates into $10,062.00! Thank you!!! Bobo's will deliver the pizzas on Oct. 12 during the AM pick up and PM drop off. Patrons must come to BEC to pick up their pizzas, we cannot send them home on the bus with your child. So our families that have bus riders will have to come to BEC on the 12th during AM pick up (11:45 to 12:30) or PM drop off (12:45 to 1:30). We will have staff outside to deliver you pizzas to you while you wait in line. We will have one evening pick up for those that are unable to come to BEC on Oct. 12.
The next PTO event will be BEC Family Night at the Pumpkin Patch on Friday, October 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Eagle Fork Farms, 65 Eagle Fork Lane, Moscow Mills Mo 63362. The cost of admission is $4.00 per person and includes 1 hayride, 1 smore, play area including a corn bin, pedal tractors and sand box and a petting area. We will have campfires so you may bring hot dogs to roast. At this time outdoor events are still able to be held. Should the WSD COVID mitigation strategies evolve and suspend such gatherings then this event would be cancelled. Time will tell. Let's hope we can safely hold this event!
