Garden's Edge
Engage. Discover. Grow. Eat.
engage
Discovery Nurse, Kristen Byrt, wrote a grant application to the Cooperative Gardens Commission of Philadelphia to be a seed hub distributor of free seeds for vegetable gardens.
This organization was started to promote gardening. Their aim is to connect people with food-growing resources -- including seeds, soil, tools, equipment, land, labor and knowledge.
DIscover
On Thursday, June 18 from 3-5pm, Mrs. Byrt and Mrs. Hansen will have seed distribution tables set up outside at Discovery Charter School.
Seeds will be available for free to the community. Social distancing practices will be in place during seed distribution, so we ask that you follow protocols and remain 6 ft. apart when selecting your seeds.
We invite children to choose seeds that interest them too. By choosing they will have an invested interest in growing their own food as well.
grow
Planting times and instructions will be given and a supportive monthly e-newsletter will be shared with gardeners. The newsletter will give tips and advice on best gardening procedures for the new, young or seasoned gardener.
Eat
When your home-grown food is ready to harvest, your family will be enjoying the freshest produce you can get. If you have too much, you are encouraged to share your supply with neighbors, learn to can and freeze for winter use and collect seeds for next year's garden.
