What's New in 2B?
October 7th, 2016
Reading
This week, we read a story called Crankenstein, about a boy who who feels grumpy and annoyed by everyday things. In the end, he finds a friend he has something in common with and he becomes much less cranky. The students practiced "making connections" by sharing what makes them cranky and what makes them feel better and comparing themselves to the boy in Crankenstein.
Math
We continued to work on place value. We used place value disks to represent numbers and took it another step further by showing different ways to represent a number using only tens and ones ( ex- 165 could be 16 tens and 5 ones, or 10 tens and 65 ones).
We also practiced solving word problems using the RDW method:
Read the problem to understand what's being asked
Draw a picture to represent the problem and help solve it
Write a number sentence and sentence to describe their answer with words.
