WBMS Friday Notes

Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Thank you for treating us to a lovely Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. Wow! Each day was thoughtful and truly made this week special. Thank you!
This week’s highlights include our 8th grade visit to The National Civil and Human Rights Museum in downtown Atlanta, which was impactful and supported many 8th grade Social Studies standards. Our students learned about the past and present human and civil rights issues, and many students described the visit as “intense”. Watching our students make connections to their classroom learning and personal experiences was powerful. Additionally, our Orchestra students shined at their yearly Large Group Performance Evaluation. Both our 8th and 7th grade Orchestra students earned “Superior” ratings. Way to go, Dr. Barket and all Orchestra students!
Lastly, we were contacted by another middle school team in Georgia who wanted to see firsthand how the WBMS community is able to achieve what we do, which is an amazing honor. They sent a group of teachers and leaders to us today, and our teachers and leaders were able to spend the day sharing our best practices, showing them our classes, and collaborating on educational issues. One of the topics they wanted to understand was our incredible parent engagement and support. As always, our strong partnership between home and school is foundational to our students’ overall success. Thank you!
Two reminders:
- Students will not report to school next Monday or Tuesday. We look forward to welcoming them all back next Wednesday, February 22nd.
- Please take time to take the district parent perception survey. I am hearing it only takes about 10 minutes, and we really value your feedback. We are on a mission to continually improve our school, which includes considering feedback from as many parents as possible - Annual Parent Perception Survey The survey is anonymous and confidential.
Enjoy the long weekend!
In collaboration -
Rebecca Williams
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

Week of 1-30
This week the students continued to learn about breathing techniques. This week they learned about finger trace breathing.
The purpose of deep breathing is to relieve stress, calm our nervous system down, ease panic and worry and to help bring more oxygen to our body.
Here is a quick visual of what square breathing is:
Next week we will actually practice this technique. If you want to get ahead start, feel free to watch this video demonstration where you can practice along with the narrator. Link to video: Mindful Moments with JusTme (#6 Finger Tracing) on Vimeo

Front Office volunteers:
Our school was recently named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence!
To earn this designation WBMS had to demonstrate families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and that our PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of PTA and our phenomenal administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
To learn more about this accomplishment or to support our PTA during the Fall Membership Drive, visit wbmspta.org.

6th Grade Cultural Kalediscope Field Trip Fernbank Planetarium March 8, 2023
A visit to the Fernbank Planetarium!
The planetarium is the third largest in the country and had recently been refitted with a 4K laser driven projection system. Students will also explore the exhibits, including the actual Apollo six capsule, a copy of the space suit worn by Neil Armstrong and meteorites, many of which landed in Georgia.
PLEASE NOTE – this is the Fernbank Science Center, not to be confused with Fernbank Museum of Natural History!
Impact Earth teaches about meteors, meteorites, asteroids, and comets. The film shows dramatically the effects of the Chixulub and Tungusta events, plus the Pallasite impact that resulted in the Brenham meteorite fall. Impact Earth describes ways that asteroid hunters seek new objects in the solar system and how ground penetrating radar is used to find meteorites that have survived to the Earth’s surface. Narrated by astronaut Tom Jones, the show also discusses ways that humans might try to deflect an asteroid or comet that is on a collision course with Earth.
Cost: FREE
Cultural Kaleidoscope is a component of the Bridge to Success/Expanded Programs Option for the Fulton County School District.
