A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PROUD PRINCIPAL MR. MURPHY
Let me start by saying what a wonderful place Thompson Crossing is! We enjoy each day! I have continued to be extremely impressed with our students and staff! I would like to share some items with you that we have discussed with our students to start the year to allow us to focus on a positive environment and maximum learning. Please help us by reviewing our expectations with your child.
1. Safety always comes first. The door outside the office entrance is the only door unlocked during the day. All visitors need to sign in at the office and we will call for students. Please help us keep our students safe by following this procedure every time you visit.
2. Students come to school each day to learn. We have an excellent teaching staff who will work hard each day to ensure that your child is getting the best possible education. Students are expected to come to school each day and do their personal best. We will make sure that each and every day counts. J
3. Fighting or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Students have been told that we will continue to work with them on a daily basis to help them solve problems. If someone is bothering them, they should use our Conscious Discipline language that we have been discussing as a student. This plan includes getting help from an adult and keeping ourselves and those around us safe. If your child tells you they are having a problem and you are unsure if the TC staff knows about it, please let their teacher know. We want to fix small problems before they become big problems. Any student who fights or uses aggressive behavior will be suspended from school, and we DO want our kids here with us!
4. We treat one another with respect and kindness. We remind our students daily that we all work together to make great things happen and while we may not agree with one another from time to time, we are always respectful and kind in all of our interactions. We are all on the same side! We ask that our parents and family members always keep this in mind, too, as we are constantly role modeling our behaviors for our youth among us as adults, too!
Yours in Education--Mr. Murphy
From The Sidelines Coach's Corner
Looking forward to a wonderful year!
Mrs. Livesay
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Moore
The Elementary Counselor is a place for all students and not just for those experiencing problems. Programs include advisory, study help, scheduling , elmentary school planing group, individual counseling and group counseling.
PLAN AND RESET YOUR DAILY SCHEDULE- Over the last week or two you should be back to school bed times schedules. For your age group an average person requires 8-10 hours of sleep to function at there optimum.
A family planner in a prominent place helps everyone see what's going on at a glance, including before or after school activities. The best way to have a great start is to stay organized.
ORGANIZE YOUR WORK SPACE AT HOME- If you do not have a dedicated place to work on homework, projects, etc. at home, now is the time to set it up! Your work space should be free of clutter. It should also be in a place that is free from distractions and quiet. It's a great idea to stock up on supplies you will need, such as a few pens and pencils, highlighter(s), eraser, colored pencils, paper, file folders and/or desk trays. If you need additional pens or paper please feel free to stop down at my office and I will be happy to help.
GET IN THE BACK TO SCHOOL MINDSET- Review your previous academic achievements. Identify areas you might want to work on this semester. I know we are in week two but now you should be getting the swing of things. If you need additional support please don't hesitate to let you teacher or counselor know.
SETTING daily Commitments. We are learning this year the importance of starting your day off on the right foot. Start your day with a daily positive commitment that will keep you in a positive frame of mind. Always remember building good habits will lead to a successful school year.
I wish you well!
Mrs. Moore
*An Update on Textbook Rental From Mrs. G
Yippee! Mrs. G is all caught up with posting Textbook Rental payment that have been made so far this year by check, money order or cash. Please take a look at your student's IC account and the fees tab to ensure your payment has been properly posted to the account. Please let her know if you have any questions.
Important Policy Reminders
Please review a few important front office policies.
We do our best to keep classroom disruptions to a minimum. If your child forgets an item and you bring it in, please do not be offended if the front office asks for you to leave the item with them so it can be delivered at an appropriate time.
- If there is a change in transportation for students at the end of the day, we must be notified by a Parent/Guardian before 2:00 pm.
- If electronics (cell phones, ipods, gaming systems) are brought into school and removed from backpacks, they can be confiscated by the teacher. A parent/guardian will be asked to pick up the electronic at the front desk.
- When having lunch with your student in the cafeteria please remember to only have your child sit with you.
- Morning student drop off and Afternoon pick up must be done in the car rider line ONLY! AS THE WEATHER GETS COLDER, WE MUST KEEP OUR EYES ON TIME AND SAFETY.To help with this, we ask that you stay in your vehicle at all times and ensure your student is exiting and entering the car on the left side of your vehicle. Please do not get out of your vehicle to help open and shut the door or buckle your student into their seat belt. Practicing at home in a safe environment would be helpful. If you find you need to buckle your student after they are in the car please pull in the parking lot, to your right, when all cars are given a GO to exit. We also ask that all parents refrain from walking your students in and out of the building when the car rider line is still going on.
- Students arriving after 8:50 am MUST be signed in at the front office.
- Review the Franklin Township policies and procedures for absences on p. 2-3 in the student handbook. We appreciate your cooperation.
- All visitors must have a photo ID to enter the building.

Students must have a consent to treat signed by a parent or guardian to be seen in the school nurse clinic. All students will be treated in the case of an emergency. POP Tab Collection - 20 MILLION!!
I am very excited that we hit the 20 MILLION mark this summer! That would not have been possible without the help of Thompson Crossing - we estimate that your school has collected almost two and half million tabs for us!
We want to thank Thompson Crossing for being such a bug part of this effort. Your students, staff and families are part of what makes Franklin Township such a great community!

Reminders
Student Drop-off/Pick-up
For the safety of our students, it is important that all persons picking up or dropping off students use the proper procedures. Students may not be dropped off before 8:40 a.m. With security procedures, the front door will not be unlocked until 8:40 a.m. and students should not be allowed out of an automobile until that time. We also understand that the drop off line gets long in the morning, but please be patient and take the time necessary to make it safe for all our students, parents, and staff. When dropping off students before and after school, please use the main entrance area only. Make sure that you follow the drive through and drop off lanes. Also, make sure that students get out on the curb or left-side of the car. There is no passing in the drop off lane. Your patience is always appreciated!
*Appointments/Early Dismissals
On the day of your student's appointment, it is very important that you have your student bring a note to their teacher or the office before school begins for the day. **Prior notification completely eliminates a classroom disruption and helps to assure that your student will be waiting in the office and ready to go when you come to sign them out. We understand that last minute things come up, but we do ask that you keep walk-up requests or last minute phone calls to a minimum. If you are picking up your child for an early dismissal THEY MUST BE PICKED UP BY 3:15 PM ON A NORMAL DISMISSAL DAY AND 2:50PM ON A PLC/WEDNESDAY. EVERY WEDNESDAY IS AN EARLY RELEASE DAY Request for early pickups by parents for appointments, etc. will be made through the front office and MUST be in writing also. These new policies will help ensure a safe dismissal for all students. The note should include the students name, teacher name, your name and date. When picking up your child for appointments, please go directly to the Main Office to sign them out. When a student returns from a mid-day appointment, the student should sign back in at the Main Office and turn in his/her doctor's note if they have one.
*Absences During the School Year
Students should be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication (i.e. Tylenol) for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has an illness associated with vomiting and/or diarrhea, they should not return to school until 24 hours after the last episode. This helps prevent further spread of viruses and bacteria, and to promote a healthier environment for all. Our goal at Thompson Crossing is to keep kids healthy and in school. It is important for all students to adhere to our illness guidelines in order to reach this goal.
Attendance is extremely important. If your child is not in our classrooms, they cannot learn and be exposed to the same content as their teacher presents. However, everyone becomes ill at various times and we understand! If your child is going to be absent, please call our attendance line at 860-4678 by 9:15 AM. Our data clerk will check the line daily to record absences. Follow the steps below:
- Date of phone call
- Name of parents/ guardians
- Name of student
- Reason for absence
- Number of days for the absence
- *If you need to leave a personal message for your child’s teacher and/or request homework, please call the teacher’s voice mail number.
