June Meeting . . . Looking to Next Year
Gosh, it has been one unique year with lots of challenges but still many things to be grateful for. At our June meeting, we will spend a little time looking back on what we have accomplished. And we will spend some time brainstorming what we hope to do next year. It would be great to hear your thoughts and see your faces.
At our May Meeting
Gabriela Mercedes Bolivar presented information about the differences between PTAs and PTOs. We talked about the pros and cons and asked questions. One big pro is that an independent PTO would allow us to be more inclusive and represent who we really are: parents, guardians, teachers, students, alumni, staff members, community members. This was the first of many discussions and plans to come. Thank you Gabriela!

Please Consider . . .
We are looking for officers in all positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and 'Elect-' positions for those who are interested but want to ease in, like President-Elect, VP-Elect, etc. Nominations will be taking place soon!
We are working really hard to create an organization that goes beyond what we think of as a typical PTSA. We have a vision of a group that is Parent, Guardian, Care-Giver, Grandparent, Teacher, Staff Member, Administrator, Student, Alumni, Community Member. Be a part of this re-creation. We would love and value your participation.
Contact any board member for more information, current board members' contact info is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Jefferson Senior Celebration, June 3rd
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2021!
When we began planning the Senior Celebration this year, we knew it would be different than years past. For many months, we didn't exactly know what it would look like, so we did our best to plan but we knew we would have to be flexible.
In order to keep our students safe during the pandemic, the school district has suspended the ability for volunteers to be on school property. For a minute, we were discouraged but, along with many other PTAs around the city and state, we got creative and figured out a way to honor and celebrate our well deserving seniors!
On Thursday evening, at the same time as senior cord pick up, 4:00-7:00, we will have a walk-through Senior Celebration just down the street from the Kerby side of Jefferson. There will be the raffle prize pick up, over 40 really cool prizes including the grand prize laptop! There will also be a fun prize wheel with lots of prizes, a cupcake station, free books donated by the Multnomah Count Library, a photo booth with a photographer, food and music!
Senior hoodies will be distributed at the school, along side of cord pick up. Laura will be there to help point seniors in the direction of the celebration.
Masks and social distancing will be required.
We continue to welcome donations to help us cover expenses for the Senior Celebration:

Thank you Julia! And make sure to put Bashor's at the top of your list when needing athletic gear!
Getting to Know Your Board Members
Laura Bullock, PTSA President
- Proud mom of 3 children. The two oldest are grown now, both graduates of PPS and the youngest is a sophomore at Jefferson. I've done the single parent thing for the whole time.
- I have been a special education teacher with Portland Public Schools since the mid 90s. I started my teaching in Portland at Humboldt Elementary, right in Jefferson's backyard.
- I grew up in New Jersey, spent 3 years in the Army, got my teaching degree in Florida and taught there for a few years before finally settling in North Portland.
- My son is way into basketball. We are big Trail Blazer fans and I know more about basketball than I ever thought I would, LOL. I also love to dabble in art and gardening. And I love to visit family in Florida and swim in the super warm ocean.
- Social justice and dismantling racism are very important to me. I am honored to be a part of the Jefferson community.
