Grade One

Curriculum

We use a standards based curriculum that provides a framework that leaves the teacher and school to make final decisions on how to meet the individual needs of each student while adhering to or exceeding standards.

21st Century Skills

Our instructional program embeds the 4 C’s of the 21st Century Skills in the daily school experience.
  • Communication: Sharing thoughts, questions, ideas and solutions.
  • Collaboration: Working together to reach a goal.
  • Critical Thinking: Looking at problems in a new way and linking learning across the disciplines.
  • Creativity: Trying new approaches to get things done.

S.T.E.M.

  • STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach.

  • Hand Pollinators

    • Insects pollinate many kinds of plants. What if the right insects aren’t around to do the work? The storybook Mariana Becomes a Butterfly shows how one girl solves a pollination problem. In this unit, students become agricultural engineers. They’ll apply their knowledge of insects, insect life cycles, pollination, and natural systems as they test a variety of materials, then engineer their own technologies for pollinating plants by hand.
