SPECIALS for the Week of February 23rd- 27th
I am looking forward to our parent/teacher conferences next week. Students will have early dismissal at 12:15 PM on February 25th & 26th. I can't wait to share your child's progress with you.
Thank you for your support of our Relay for Life bead sale. THANK YOU to Hudson's family for donating all the beads to raise money for for this worthy cause. Thank you also for the King cake. What a special treat it was for us!
THANK YOU for doing such a GREAT job on our eClass Challenge day last Monday! We had 17 students accept the challenge and go to their eClass page to work on our activity. There were 12 students that participated in our discussion about penguins. What an exciting tool eClass is!
LANGUAGE ARTS
- Building our sight word vocabulary- new words this week: want, little, how, there, eat
- Retelling familiar stories and identifying characters, setting, and major events in a story
- Blending letters to make CVC words
- Changing the initial consonant to make new words
- Working on putting uppercase letters at the beginning of a sentence and naming end punctuation.
- Features of non-fiction text
- Finding information in non-fiction text about penguins
- Learning to write persuasive stories
- Fluently reading and understanding books ON grade level
- Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers
READ and RECORD so we can REWARD!!
Our class was the Kindergarten Mega Minute Winners for the 2nd Nine Weeks!!! We read 23,612 minutes. Congratulations to all my students that were recognized at our celebration!! I am so PROUD of you! 17 students in our class read and recorded their minutes online. YOU ROCK!!
White Horseshoe: 900+ minutes
Maroon Horseshoe: 1260 +minutes
Gold Horseshoe: 1350+ minutes
Bronco: 1890+ minutes
Math
- Counting objects one to one and telling how many
- Comparing if a group has greater than, less than, or equal to another group
- Comparing two written numerals
- Decomposing and composing numbers from 11-19
Using math tools- number line, rekenrek, and tens frame to build numbers
Daily calendar math
- Counting by tens, fives, and ones to 100
- Recognizing coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter and knowing their values
- Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
- Using the "Notice and Wonder" strategy to help us with problem solving
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- Learning about penguins.
- Learning about Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and the significance of President's Day!

REMINDERS
- Bingo night is tonight, February 20th at 6:30 p.m.
- You can still order class pictures now through Tuesday. They cost $12 for a 5 x 7 and $13 for an 8 x 10. If you want the picture to come in a folder you need to add $2. Checks should be made out to BPI (not Craig).
- Parent/ Teacher conferences will be on February 25th & 26th. I am SO excited to share your child's progress with you!
- Six Flags Reading forms are due on February 26th!
